1961 gas tank
I have a pretty much origonal 61 and the take looks origonal has allot of sludge in the bottom
Should i pull it and have it re done ?
Or buy a new reproduction ?
If i buy a new reproduction which one is the best and the best fit ?
i have read a bunh of threads where some reproductions were a fit nightmaer.
Thansk

Quanta reproduction tanks are so reasonably priced and are of such high quality that I wouldn't even consider throwing money at an original tank.
Seriously.
The fit is tight but nothing a little imagination can't overcome.

Hi Bill. You already got my opinion: Go Quanta. I'm not a big fan of restoring old gas tanks or radiators. If you are going to all the effort of removing it, you might as well have a new one.

You can buy them direct from Quanta Products. They advertise in the NCRS Driveline or just Google them. I have their tanks in my 61 and 65.

I took mine to a local guy, who understands car guys not a big commercial shop, he had some old school stuff and spent a week cleaning it and letting it set.
He also pressure checked for leaks. It came back perfect for me. It was clean but not restore or painted, he applied some blue sealer inside, for $75.
I had no issues before I started, I was putting in a sender and notice a brown slime in the bottom.

After looking at the inside of my original 61 tank, I went with a replacement.
Just me, but I would not mess with cleaning/sealing - the new tank is not that much more money.
I went with a 62 tank in my 61 for the extra baffle - no problems there at all.
It is a BEAR of a job.. there are some good threads.. You will need to pre-bend the new tank in a few areas to get it to fit in.
I replaced most of the hardware and all the lines.. but cleaned and re-painted the original hold-down straps as getting the new ones to work was a BEAR as well! The old ones are already bent in the right places!
