Default Radio issues

Yes I do love to listen to my C2 roar though the town but thought it would be nice to also listen to some tunes. Currently barely get 1 station to come in and its 95% static 90% of time. What should I be looking at to get more stations to come in? Factory radio and atenna 67 C2. Thanks in advance guys !

I've got a cheap rubber antenna I bought at Oreilly's for around 9 bucks that I use to plug into radios to eliminate the antenna and antenna wiring as possibilities. You can plug in an antenna without removing the radio.
Could be bad inside radio, but gotta start somewhere. I have had original C2 radios act up and not get good signal when the am/fm slide hadn't been moved in a while and if I slid it back and forth rapidly a few times to clean the dust off, they worked better.
This one is $21 bucks, but they have cheaper ones in the store to use for test purposes. Or if you have one from another car as long as it uses the same plug type as yours.

Indeed, you have something wrong...if there are local AM/FM stations you pick up with a modern car you should at least get something better than what you describe in your Corvette. The antenna could be a likely culprit; especially up behind the LR wheel where it is grounded (my 63 ground strap had come completely loose. If that's good the radio case must also be well grounded. As mentioned dirty switches can affect things but just as likely the internals could be the issue. 50+ year old internal capacitors just don't work well...

Thanks Frankie. I suspect the atenna as well. Is there an easy way to check the connection into the radio with having to remove the radio itself? Do you have an diagrams or pictures of what I should be looking for at the actual atenna (ground)? Thanks again!

static issues often a cause from bad plug wires. Spiral wound by Moroso eliminates that. I get very good reception, no static in my '62 with zero shielding

If you'll try what I told you and connect an external antenna into your radio antenna plug you could eliminate all that without changing or removing anything. If it still won't pick up any stations you'll know it's in the radio

If you remove the PS center console side cover you can make sure the antenna is secure and make sure all the mounting hardware is there for the radio...

Make sure your power and speaker connectors are solid and shine a light up there and examine the speaker cone. Those can turn into newspaper over the years.

Try what 65GGvert suggested. I had the same problem after a full restoration. Rebuilt radio, new speaker, new antenna and cable and new hardware -- but couldn't tune in a station a half mile away. I plugged in a cheepo antenna from Autozone and had great reception. The original new antenna cable was defective right out of the box. I replaced the bad cable (PITA) and that fixed the problem.

Do all of the above:
Check the speaker for deterioration, cracks, etc. Check the radio and antenna connections for corrosion. Check the ground to both the radio and antenna. Try a temporary antenna. Make sure the ground plane is in place at the antenna. This can all be done without removing the radio, but you may have to stand on your head to see things under the dash.

Could you please tell me how you put in your CD player? I am looking for a radio that will fit the C2 with a CD player in it. It's a tough find. Any help will be appreciated. Tks.
