DUH-m and DUH-mer.
A couple weeks ago I bought a new 2017 Chevy 2500HD Duramax in order to to fetch my C1's and move my cars in an enclosed trailer. So yesterday I drove it from Orange County to Banning (about 80 miles, near Palm Springs) to view a job for a client. I decided to drive it because I'm trying to put some miles on it before I start towing, and I only had 135 miles on it so far.
During the trip I had the radio on as I left Orange County. About 15 minutes after I left I called my elderly mother and spoke to her over the truck's bluetooth for the duration of the trip out there. A little over an hour later I pulled on the job site at the Morongo Indian Reservation near Banning and I said good by to my mom on the phone. I found a parking spot and came to a stop. Checking the info center and it said it was about 108 degrees outside. After hanging up from my mom and before I shut the engine off I heard some weird sounds coming from the dash and defrost ducts. It was like boiling water, popping, hissing and clicking. I thought the heater coils were going to come unglued. Before I shut it off I looked at the water temperature gauge and it was about 205 which is considered normal. I shut it off and left the truck for about an hour.
When I came back, I turned the key on and before I could get it started the gurgling, popping and hissing started up again. I thought "Great. It just turned over 200 miles and I get to drop it off at the dealer to see if they can find out if I have an air pocket in the cooling system or some dumb thing." That's when I decided to turn the radio up so I wouldn't be bothered by the noise. But when I turned it up the popping, hissing, clicking and humming got louder. Hmmm. Then I turned the radio down and it got quieter. That's when I realized that the radio station I was listening to in Orange County, that was in range when I called my mom, was now out of range when I said good by to her while at the Morongo Indian Reservation. And the noise was static was coming from the speakers in the dash. Duh.
I guess that was actually good news. The only thing wrong with my truck was "no signal."

I have no room to talk.
We bought two new cars last fall, both with more electronic bells and whistles than I'll ever learn.
I butt-dial on bluetooth all the time when in them. This means that my radio automatically goes quiet, which aggravates me, and I fiddle angrily with the volume controls (on the steering wheel, of course), while someone on the other end answers the phone.
I actually was swearing up a blue streak about this once (I'm a retired career sailor, so I have a doctorate in colorful language) when my 83 year old mother - the "Queen" answers the phone, and likely got her ear burned off.

This why I prefer to drive my 1987 Silverado shortbed over any of the newer stuff with all the technology. It has all the technology I need to drive in comfort.

That's great hearing this stuff from you guys, glad I'm not the only one! I love my 2012 Tundra but there is more tech stuff than I'll ever use or understand. The owners manual is an inch thick.
I cleaned it awhile back and evidently hit some buttons or dials, now I've got lights going on & off, haven't got a clue on how to fix it. Just hope it doesn't run the battery down. Love the Bluetooth, can hear better on it than my iPhone so do most of my social calling when I'm driving.

And it really annoys them when the bill is say $6.32, and I pull out four $1 bills from my wallet and $2.34 in change from my pocket. I can still pay faster in cash than most people using a card.

I have never left my wallet, but sometimes get weird looks from younger clerks because I pay in cash, and don't swipe a debit card like everybody does. I don't even have a debit or ATM card.

Even though I listen to radio stations out of range I haven't left my wallet anywhere yet, thankfully. But in our house we have a saying...
"The older we get, the better we were."
I can't wait.
