Default 1959 trunk layout

Hi all, I recently bought a 1959 that has been sitting in a shed for 8 years and am in the process of restoring it. I have a question about the trunk. Are the side "coves" in the trunk supposed to be open. There is no side moldings to keep things from falling down into the rear fenders. Is this correct? If anyone can please post pictures of their trunk showing the proper layout of the jack, tire iron etc. I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you very much,
Tom

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on you find. The wheel wells are open, nothing covering them. Your spare tire fits in the well with the deep side up, and the jack fits inside the wheel. Spare tire board on top with the bolt going through the jack and screwing into the nut in the bottom of the wheel well. Trunk mat on top of the board. The lug wrench fits underneath a clip on the left side of the trunk and the fold up jack handle on the right side in another clip on top of the mat. They both slide under a small notch in the vertical trunk panel on either end. Post some pictures of your new toy.

Yes correct, no side pieces. A few years ago I found a watch that I lost in the 70's down one of those pockets on my 59.

Congratulations on your 59, we do love before pictures of new found cars Pilot Dan

Thank you very much guys for the pictures and the info. That is exactly what I needed. I'll post pictures when I get further along with this "project"!
