Briefly. You will burn the points out. I don't how quickly. I don't think it will be good for the (presumably) stock-type coil, either.
If you were planning on falling back to points in the event of a Pertronix failure, you should have bypassed the resistor instead of removing it.

I don't take anything. I just hit the key and go for it!

Garage door opener, gate opener, cell phone, reading glasses, note pad, pen, comb, spare handkerchief, registration and insurance card. Spare parts ( belts and associated wrenches, fix-a-flat, paper towels, mother thumper etc.) go in the wells behind the seat on the C-2.

You can put a short piece of wire behind the ballast resistor to short it out when using the Pertronix; the resistor can be re-engaged with a screwdriver and two minutes work. I've done it...

Any trip of less than 1000 miles doesn't require much beyond what's listed above. I have AAA premier which allows one free 200 mile tow. No need for a dedicated GPS nav device when any $100 Android phone preloaded with the Google Maps app will give you driving instructions to pretty much anywhere on the planet. Just get one of those suction cup mounts, a 12v charger, and you're good to go.

My radio fills the glove box. A gift from the previous owner.

I'm not sure about this distinction you are making between "ballast" and "resistor" as two different parts. The part under discussion is the "ballast resistor."

Because of the FI, I only use 91 octane NON ethanol. It's plentiful in the Okla City area, but NOT always available on road trips. So I take three 5gal cans full to the top. Never know when more than 1qt of oil might be needed. The rest of the stuff is misc (few tools, pop-up awning, folding chairs, ice chest, bottle jack, chain to secure to a post or tree, cleaning "stuff', etc), including a bed roll for the trailer. I can put the tail gate down, move everything over a little and lay----------------fully stretched out-------------along one side-------------------with the .44mag under a pillow.
