Default Alternator Help

Am I correct in thinking that an alternator with the stamped date of
5 J 22 is an October 22, 1965 date of manufacture???? Thanks.

I don't think the stamped letter I was used so if I'm correct the letter J would indicate September.

I think tbarb is trying to say, alternator date codes did not use the letter "I" for the month, which is correct.

A – January
B – February
C – March
D – April
E – May
F – June
G – July
H – August
J – September
K – October
L – November
M – December

Try this:
"I don't think the stamped letter "I" was used so if I'm correct the letter J would indicate September."

It may not be typical (two to eight weeks), but NCRS will accept an alternator date code within six months prior to your build date.

I am also replacing an alternator on my early 66. Ron at Chevy Cool in Scottsdale has some beautifully restored ones for sale if you want to find something closer to your build date.
