trip odometer reset

trip odometer reset
Help - i have been trying to figure out the routing of the trip odometer cable by looking at the Assembly manual, and I have been looking through old posts, but I can not figure out where the trip odometer reset cable goes.
i have a 67 coupe, i have the cable attached to the back of the instrument panel. I took it apart a couple years ago, but i cant seem to locate any bracket or mounting point under the dash. The assembly manual seems to reference some kind of mounting bracket, but i just cant figure it out
can anyone provide some guidance? i am hoping that it will be some silly thing that i have missed.
If I can just get this done, then I can install the seats, then I can finish the carbs, and install the exhaust, and then get it running, and then drive it. This project is nearing the stage of "it will never get done", so any advice here may be the difference between good memories and bad...

It should protrude through the flat part of the Steering Column-Dash Bezel/Collar or in that area of the dash.
Good luck... GUSTO

Then make yourself a bracket to keep the trip odometer in 'reset' mode and take that load off the speedo gear train.

the vendors list a mounting bracket for 63 and 64-66, but not for 67. I just cant seem to find any info on this -
if anyone out there has a 67 and they can tell me where the trip odometer cable mounts under the dash (the **** end), then I would appreciate it. If it is just the same as the other C2's, then I apologize for the redundant ask, but the vendors dont seem to list any bracket, and I dont see anywhere under the dash to attach it
i also appreciate the advice about keeping it pressed in to minimize stress on the gears.

However, the point of the bracket is to hold the trip odometer in permanent reset mode where it is disengaged from the speedometer and main odometer drive train. This reduces the running load on the drive train by about one half. Midyears are notorious for the odometers to stop working at 50K or 60K miles and the loading is part of the reason, which this addresses.

thanks for those pics
i see the hole in that bracket where it mounts near the hood release
now to just figure out how to get the black plastic **** off the end without breaking it to get it to fit through the hole!
thanks again

it should be soft enough rubber that it will pull off the stud. but if it is really dried out you may be out of luck and have to buy a new one.. mine was original, and it was still soft enough that came loose.. good luck..troy

came across this old thread! Putting my dash back in after replacing the pressure gauge. I noticed my reset and **** are really tough to turn. (Always been that way) Instead of making a bracket, wouldn't it be easier to just disconnect that reset cable from the back of the Odometer Wheel?

Trip reset bracket
The reset function is pretty sucky even when things are working right.

added the bracket and installed it on my 66. However I could not get the trip reset dials to 0000 but only 1111. Since the trip odometer dials don’t move and the main odometer does I assume I am disconnected from the drive train and running load is reduced. But I thought I’d check to be sure

"odometers to stop working at 50K or 60K miles and the loading is part of the reason"
The reason this happens is due to GM using plastic speedometer gears back in the 1960's. Some Speedometer restoration shops claim they replace the plastic gears with metal gears. Claiming this problem will not ever happen again.
Has anybody had their speedometer gears replaced with metal? Problem solved??? Who does this service with metal gears???

No plastic
Hi, the plastic gears you speak of are in the transmission part. No plastic gears in speedometer head.
You want plastic gears in transmission to prevent stripping of metal gear on output shaft.
