Actually I'm familiar with "writ", but the fact that it was capitalized made me think the OP knew what he wanted to type and that it stood for something. Guess not.
Ummm...not sure how you mean that, but I don't think I want to know.

You know, this was not well-planned. Now that ex-hubby knows what is in store, he will be taking steps to be unavailable or to move the car. Hindsight being 20/20, showing up Monday with ALL the required paperwork in hand - or in the cops hands actually - would have possibly brought a better outcome.
I think chances of OP ever seeing that car are about zilch. Hope I'm wrong.

I wouldn't want to be in the middle of all that drama. If title in her name, I'd have to wait until car is in her possession. Not show up cold with car hauler, Jane and boyfriend at man's house trying to force things. That's a good way to get some stitches.

These things can go really bad. A fellow I know restored a 1965 to great condition. Unfortunately while he worked on the restore his wife found a boyfriend. Fellow I know is Carl, Carl knows nothing about the boyfriend and is really surprised when his neighbor calls him at work and says he better get home fast because some guy is loading Carl's 65 Vette into a moving van. Carl calls the cops and races home from work. His Vette is in a moving Van and much of the house items are loaded also.
Wife is moving out of state with new Bo.
Cops tell Carl he has to get out of his house that day. They tell the wife she can't take the car and can't move till things are settled in court.
Cops say the Vette will stay in the house till courts decide who gets it.
Two weeks after this Carl is driving and sees his Corvette going down the road with the Bo at the wheel alone in the car.
Carl pulled up beside him at a light and jerked the jerk out of the Vette and beat the stuffing out of the guy. Took the Vette and put it in a buddy's garage.
He still had it last I heard and was not arrested on the assault.
Divorce creates some really bad things in normally sane people.

Her mistake was not having the correct papers and not knowing about the Sunday law. The car would be very difficult to move where it is, so I don't think that will happen but he could easily disappear for awhile. I didn't like the plan from the get go, but she keeps telling me she didn't have a place to store the car until I could come down so I was stuck with their plan.
good luck

Anyone call NBC ? This has the potential to be a number ! soap. It has intrigue , suspense, cops, girl / boy friends, America's favorite sports car, and the hills of Tennessee . We got to know what the players look like and their intentions to resolve or maybe continue the " grabsation ". So far buyer 0 ( with expenses ) , court designated owner 0, court defendant 1 as he still has custody.
He obviously wants to keep the car but the courts sided with the lady. So many decisions are unfair because she is only in it for the cash while he has a genuine interest in the classic. A simple solution would be for him to give her half value as they both own it together and going their separate ways.
Now he knows a Writ is on the way in 24 hours. How many parts can he remove, damage, destroy between now and then ? Buyer is talking renegotiation on value. Sounds like its no longer a steal. Time, money for expenses, another trip ? might make this fiasco a losing venture. In these scenarios someone has to come out with the white hat ( getting a great bargain with colorful story ) and the other the walk of shame. If I'm telling the story its going to have a very fantastic finish how I uncovered a jewel, fought the marlin, and landed same for a near world record.
Notice there is no car description. If I am that interested and bargaining for a long period of time I am going to know details, and a lot of them. Condition, options, damage if any , modifications, extra parts. ect. Were kept in the dark for the final curtain. Maybe there is no suspense at all. He is just being a little on the disappointed side of life.
Hope the poster keeps a journal. With the right twists ( maybe a few invented along the way ) it could make this more profitable to a writer than the grand prize. Mystery stories are great, even if they center on an automotive venture. Stay tuned, the strategy unfolds.
* If he removed the VIN tag, held on by two screws, how would she prove the car was hers ?

Gerald, not sure what your plans are for the '56, perhaps you aren't either, but I'm guessing the immediate goal is to remove it from a potentially destructive situation and perhaps return it to it's former glory.
Since "Dick" is in a no win situation and really seems to have nothing to gain by cooperating, if the opportunity presents itself you might try to turn this around by making him an offer he won't want to refuse. Let him know (perhaps out of earshot of "Jane"), that if he cooperates and lets you take the car, when you finish with your plan for the car, you will give him the right of first refusal to buy it back.
No time frame necessarily needs to be stated up front. However just the opportunity to get the car back, or even just to see it preserved may be all it takes to get him to see that both the car and he have a future. If he's a Corvette person, an appeal like that could be all it takes. In time he will get on with his life and whether the car plays a part in that or not, will be entirely up to him. In any event he will now have an incentive to look forward and not backward at a failed relationship.
Good luck, and be safe... GUSTO

It's little wonder they are changing strategy to gain new and more members. Score one for the hobby and gear benders.
