Water Temp Locations
Would there be a difference in the water temperature readings depending on where the sending unit is located?
On my '62 the regular sending unit is in the manifold (aftermarket Alum) and has always read on the low side. That's ok with me because I'm used to the reading. Engine has a 180 stat. I also have a sender located in one of the heads (aftermarket Dart heads - iron). When I hook that gauge up to a test panel I it reads 10 degrees higher at temp, 190 degrees. Is this because the sender is in a hotter part of the engine?

I think your theory can be supported by an IR gun. The heads are near the exhaust manifolds which run very hot. Any time I have shot my IR gun at different locations, the coolest appear to be near the thermostat area where heat can dissipate more easily than those areas near the exhaust manifolds and heads.
