Some of my old car pictures--not all Corvettes

How does one person get to own so many beautiful fantastic cars in one life time ? In the midwest I don't believe half of these existed to be purchased. Everyday must have been a holiday for a fanatic who lived and breathed great transportation. Please don't show any more. I'm depressed as it is. Question # 2, how did you afford this addiction ? I would never have parted with half of them.
I look back at some of the cars I passed on. The remaining examples may have never have been found. I guess someone above sorts them out for us.
By the way, envy is not even close. Five decades later we have to pick some remains and build them the way they began life. The good part, ..... were still in the game !! Thanks for sharing.

Wow some nice rides, you got good taste!
Often wish I was a teen not the kid on the stingray bugging the older guys on the block to see their rides in the 70s
Member here owned the silver bullit for a number of yrs in the 70s interesting story. Sure you know about that one if youre a Hemi guy
Google chevelles.com silver bullit.
one guy on our street never had less than 5 AMX at one time, his Dad had a superbird, another neighbor 2 doors down always drove 70 purple r/t challengers would rip the 383 out the first day stick a 318 in it and commute 80 mi a day. Good times back then!
Heck the babysitter drove a 69 SS396 Chevelle!

Nearly every young person drove a car like these back in the day.

Avanti's all had the 289 Studebaker/Packard engine. They had two options the supercharged engine or dual quads. The Avanti IIs used a GM drive train.
Mine was a rare care with a 4 speed, PW and supercharger.

You probably don't recognize me by my screen name but I am Darryl Dayton. You know the car. Jerry Gendreau and I bought and brought that car to the NCRS awareness at the Rockford NCRS meet in about 1976/77? where Mike Hunt looked the car over. The last that I knew of where I THINK the car was, was in Ohio with a collector and I believe he is the guy that invented/sold radar unit for law enforcement AND radar detectors. You likely know the V.I.N. if not I will look it up for you. You do know that Kim Madsen passed away a few years ago, correct?

Yes, you and I have talked and your history is interesting. Your car is with the same collector. I and others inspected it in 2009 at his home.
Yes Kim Madsen's passing was too early for such a nice hard working Corvette enthusiast. I placed his 59 Steve Elfenbein Corvette New Jersey race car with two collectors. The car is in Southern California and been vintaged raced since 2013.

68hemi,
Really enjoyed your history walk through of all those cars you had at one time! Sounds like some of them were in and out of your hands in a matter of days. That factory Paxton supercharged Avanti was and is a rare, neat car. Thought you would enjoy seeing a Studebaker Lark (body style very similar to a Plymouth Valiant), similarly equipped with that supercharger at the drag strip. A light car with 4.10:1 gears ripping a 12.68 time was no slouch.
Thanks for posting!
Enjoy!
Jim

I have a rich friend that imported many nice Corvettes to our area. Unfortunately buyers from out of the area grabbed them as fast as he could put them up for sale. In particular a nice 54 and a C-2 big tank coupe that really impressed me. Four thousand dollars and it could have been in my drive. Unfortunately or maybe fortunate for me the later 70s was college funding planning. We built and sold houses to supplement the expenses. When I did find a fiberglass bargain it was later sold for the above cause. Retirement was a new perspective at 55. Now I buy and retain, seven at last count. Just a great hobby and met many interesting people with the same disease. The " wild goose chases " my wife calls them are still adventurous even though most don't produce buying results. Just peering into the past with old memories makes the trips pleasureable. Should be taking notes for a best seller.

Response to a couple of posts here.
Thanks for sharing the video. I love to see and grandma car grocery getter with relatively small tires smoking a legendary Yenko car.
Regarding the ex-wife comment, I tell people I am 3 times stupider than most people.
I am glad you guys are enjoying the pictures, I just wish I had pictures of all of the cars I have owned.
I often say when people comment about these old cars being sold for such low prices back in the day that they were just cars then. They were to most people but I had a different vision of them even then.
I made money on them by simply recognizing a good deal and knowing how to market/advertise them. The great majority of them were long before the Internet and were advertised/marketed through Hemming, the Chicago Tribune and the Rockford paper when I lived in a couple of small towns in N.W. Illinois so due to the lag time of ads in Hemming print I usually had these cars for a month or more. I also had a high school friend that was my partner on many of these old cars. We were making money but it was also about the fun of owning the cars and the chase. He was/is a major gearhead like me. I had a good working relationship with my bank and would buy these cars on a 90 day opened note, pay them off when sold and buy another. Sometimes I had as many as 5 cars sitting around the house.

I just sold the 66 Hemi Coronet two weeks ago.
They made many 66 Hemi Coronets but there are factory records for how many made in each model and what trans they had. The V.I.N. will tell you the model and engine. There were four Coronet models in 1966. A Base with no exterior trim, rubber floor mat and basic cloth and vinyl seats, a Deluxe, a 440 and a 500 as you went up in models you got more trim and better interiors. In the base model they made 34 cars with the Hemi, 23 with auto trans and 11 with 4 speeds, so my car was one of eleven built. When you ordered a Hemi with a 4 speed you got the 9 3/4" Dana rear end with 3.54 gears. The auto came with a 8 3/4" rear end with 3.23 gears. All came with the police & taxi suspension and brakes which marketing later called Hemi suspension and brakes. My car was bought new to race and was never titled until I bought it. It had 3661 original miles on it 1/4 mile at a time.
