Default 67 trim tag opinion

With all the talk on here lately on trim tags matching numbers and such this car showed up at a local car show claiming to be a real 435 car. The original engine was suppose to be st his house so I could not get a picture of the pad. It's a real early car second week of production. But this tag looks questionable

Also the car was restored to someone's liking so all evidence was gone

Hmmm - so, it's one of those rare A O Smith bodied 1967 427s, eh.....

Also, the trim tag on my 67 isn't made out of polished stainless.....

I'd be interested to hear what Roy Sinor has to say...

I would never consider even an early 1967 Dow Smith (A O Smith) bodied 427 Corvette as authentic or real unless it had bulletproof paperwork. Even then it would have to be very early first two or three days of production. I guess A31 build date and body A0038 meets that criteria, if its a real trim tag, this photo is not sufficient quality to determine if it is or is not real. Without GM documentation of the build it would be very hard to convince anybody it is authentic.

Agree with Roy and Steve..........the first thing to do is a thorough check/evaluation of the VIN and TRIM tags. Then a forensic evaluation of the body and driveline components, numbers, and date codes.

Keith: What side was the hood support on?? For a born big block car for 1967, it should be on the driver side.

Larry to be honest I didn't pay that close attention. After giving it a quick glance then seeing the tags I walked away.

A good/legitimate question..........but after 50 years, many of these cars had side pipes added somewhere along the way.

If it did have them from the factory, that would say it was a St Louis body that someone put AOS body tags on. And then it could of been either a BB or SB car.

I guess we may never know.

Keith:

This is from years ago on this forum. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ody-427-a.html You were involved in the thread. Noland wrote about this very car in his book on C2 Restoration.......so if it is not real, the deception goes back a long ways. The engine is also listed as a 427 on page 444 in his survey for 1967 cars.
