5 speed in a 58
Has anybody put a five speed in their C1?
Will any 5 speed you know of fit without butchering the tunnel?
Where does shifter location work out?
Mine is a 1958.
Now has a Super T-10 with a Hurst shifter.
Original 4:10 posi rear that I'd like to keep.

Many have put a Tremec 5 speed in their C1. You only have to cut the bottom of the ash tray depression. Install spacers to lower the transmission mount while you are at it.
Clink manual MAG-00601 on the following link for the details:

There are 5 speeds and then there are 5 speeds. What kind are you talking about? 4.10s shouldn't be a problem with Overdrive. I am personally putting a Richmond Super Street 5 speed in my 62.

Mine has a fairly built 327 probably 375-400 hp.
The trans need to be durable enough to be beat on once in a while.

I installed a TKO600 from SST in my 61 this year. In addition to cutting the bottom of the ash tray pocket, I had to enlarge the opening for the shifter and make a bulge on the side of the tunnel towards the drivers side to clear the trans yoke u-joint. Some other haven't had to do these last 2 mods but all cars are different. Your 4.10 would be perfect with the .64 OD. I think the shifter with the Hurst Driveline conversion sits lower than with the SST. You will definitely like the 5 speed!

I am going the other direction with my car. As we speak installing a 383/450 in the car and will replace the 3.70 with 3.08 rear gears to be kind to the engine at 85 mph freeway speeds. Should be more than enough power with those gears in a 2850 lb. car. A lot cheaper than going to a different trans. You have to decide if you want to pull stumps on the low end or have gears that will keep the rear from jumping all over the place. These old C1s don't have the best traction as it is. I have already installed Traction Masters on mine in anticipation of the problem even with 3.08 gears.

Good looking car. However, if it were mine I would paint the cove Inca silver which would look exceptionally well with the color of your wheels.

Easiest swap if you already have a SUPER T-10 is the McLeod street 5 speed. It's a bolt in replacement and rated to 500#/ft.
I've bought one for my '64 but it's still sitting on the floor of the shop in a box...
