Default '66 Hardtop mounting holes on rear deck

The body work and paint were done on the car in '92, and whatever was used to fill the hardtop mounting holes is just recently barely starting to shrink, and at certain angles the imperfection can be seen. It's only slightly noticeable (very much so to me) and it's only a matter of time that it will really be unsightly. I do not have a hardtop and have no plans to get one, but I am thinking about installing the parts in the rear deck to receive the hardware mounting bolts. Being the locations of where to drill are obvious, it's just a matter of drilling two holes and inserting the parts. It's either having the mounting parts there- looking deliberate and as they belong, or leave it where it looks like it needs repair.

So, what if any, might be some thoughts on my brain storm?

Why in the world wouldn't you do that on an otherwise nice paint job. For a few dollars and an hour's work your problem is solved with a factory looking approach. I wish the paint problems I've experienced could be fixed that easily.

I'd be ripping my back pocket off getting my wallet out to buy those hardtop deck receivers...

That's how I looked at it, but sometimes when something seems like such a no-brainer and so logical, one gets to question one's self.

Thanks

I took care of that years ago. The holes were there- empty. I bought what was needed, so that was a quick fix. I would have taken care of these rear deck holes at the same time had I anticipated the body filler shrinking like it is.

Ordered the parts from Rik's Corvette, in NC. They're scheduled to arrive Friday.

This is exactly why I didn't fill in the holes for the snaps somebody had put in the body for a tonneau cover years ago when I repainted the '61. Such holes are hard to get so that they don't eventually cause problems..

Got the parts on Thursday and put 'em in this morning. I went with bezels and plugs vs. nuts and bolts. It's a much cleaner look.

Thanks for the comments and thoughts.

Here is the end product. I didn't do it right away, but it finally got done.
Thanks again for the comments.
