I have an original 1958, that I have owned 1-1/2 years. I am thinking to get a little better ride I can change the Leaf Springs and coil springs. Before I do something that may be unnecessary. Can anyone tell me how to determine if the Leaf Springs and the Coil Springs need to be changed?
Only if it's sagging or tilting to one side would you need a spring change. You should focus more on bushings and shocks for a better ride. I think my 60 rides pretty good FOR WHAT IT IS. 60 yr old technology. Your seats are a big part of the ride also.
The original leaf springs are grooved on a C1 - the best way to check them is via free arch measurement which requires removal....having done this job its not for the faint of heart...
Try the shocks and bushings first..also make sure your rebound straps are in good shape
