Call your classic car insurance company first off - then if you have Triple-AAA that might be a consideration....some coverage provides "Trip Continuation" insurance and the like...

Bummer. Did it lose oil pressure?? It never had bearing trouble before did it? Just that piston??

It was a weird event. I was stuck in traffic and the car stalled. As the engine stopped, it dieseled in a reverse rotation. As this was happening, I popped the clutch while moving forward in 1st gear in an attempt to restart.
All this happened on a second. I either broke a rod bearing or bent a rod.
Oil pressure is still good and not fluctuating. Loud knocking down low.

Yep...the engine can't turn in both directions at the same time....especially with the inertia of the rolling car turning it against itself while it is running backwards. Something had to give, and it did. With a dieseling car, the best thing to do is to load the engine up by putting it in gear with the brake on to kill the engine. This with the car stopped and standing still. Then you can start it back up, and continue on.

Thus entered the emission age and the introduction of the "anti-dieseling" solenoids...
