Default Key ignition cylinder

Does anybody replace key ignition cylinders? My 86 is sloppy, and won't start. Over recent years the VATS would think someone was stealing car and wouldn't start, but now it totally doesn't want to. In Yamhill Oregon.

Any locksmith should be able to replace it, they should be able to rekey the cylinder to your old key, it won't affect the vats because because the resistor is in the key.

Normally if you buy the cylinder from a GM dealer they will key it to match your key for you since their cylinders come blank.

Over here, we don't know nothing bout no 86 VATS systems. I agree the resistor is in the key, but the contacts that read it are in the cylinder. So......better off in C4 forum probably.

The only difference between the VATS and non vats cylinder is the small plug and pig tail on the vats system for the contacts in the cylinder.
