Congratulations on the cherry Mustang. I've always loved early Mustang fastbacks and have no idea why I never owned, though I suppose buying a 67 Vette coupe in 68 influenced my car choices forever. Lovely car(s) you got there, Benton!

I would have to get a lot of forgiveness from Zora - I'm all in for diversity on my appreciation of 60s era cars and own at least one each of the big 3. Nice Mustang - I like the fastbacks.

Nice find Benton! I learned to dive in '68 by driving my dad's '67 Mustang coupe! Dark green with tan buckets - 289 / auto! That pony wss a blast! I was pissed when he traded it in for a '70 Toronto GT!

You guys are ALL too kind, and the photos are cool to see as well.

I admit that the c2 and early c3 are the (obtainable) "it" cars for me, but I've owned mid to late 60's Pontiacs and a couple early Challengers and Chrysler products and enjoy perusing a bevy of other vintage P cars and Lotus.

candidly project/driver coupes are so cheap I can't believe I never owned a first gen mustang! I hope I enjoy driving the Fastback, they are the pick of the litter IMHO and I'm comfortable with the economics, so I'm counting this as a great adventure.

I bought the 69 Corvette right, and won't have trouble selling it if that's what happens, but it's such a good car as well that I hesitate to. Dang it, they're all nice. Makes me laugh. What a world.

Anyhow- I'm going to "thanks" a bunch of posts here and I hope you guys will read this and know I appreciate you all individually and I'm not just rubber-stamping it.

When I pick up the car tomorrow I'll post some follow up and some much better photos.

Benton

Must have been a low production color, like ivy gold. Never seen one in amber metallic.

Ever watch Adam-12? There was a '67 coupe that showed up in almost every episode. Burnt amber with a white vinyl top.

basically that is a darkish orange color. I almost bought one in that color with a black interior when I did get my first 67 back when. I couldn't stomach the color even tho it woulda been a better deal/price than the one I did buy...

I got the paperwork down yesterday afternoon, it arrived around nine pm. At 2 pm today I drove it gingerly in the neighborhood after a quick fuel system drain and flush and brake check. I have new brakes all around for it but the old ones had been bled and are probably ok (I like to know I did my brakes, however).

Feels good to drive a cR that has been sitting for too long.

Nice Looking car, I really like the lines on the 67/68 fastbacks. I hate Fords for the most part but I really like that car.
Make Zora and yourself happy. Install a 327/365 in it and it will outrun any Ford small block and the Muncie tranny will shift better!
I feel a Ellanore clone coming in your future, finding a good body is the hardest part and you now have it.
When I was 17 I was dating a gal, her dad bought her a first car. I drove her to go pick it up. It was a 1967 Mustang. I had my 1971 Nova SS with a 350 in it. On the way home I was going to show off how much more power my Nova SS had so I pulled out and was already passing when she realized what I was doing and floored it. That damn Mustang her dad had purchased took off and before I could get far enough ahead to pull in front she was blowing past me. My 17 year old ***** shrank for sure. I found out later about the 390 option in the GTA Mustang, I had never had any competition from the 289 or 302's back then. That 390 with a Holley 780 factory carb embarrassed my 350 which I thought ran really well. Enjoy your new Toy it goes well with your 64 Vette.

Why would you go to all of that retrofit trouble when a stroked 351 will bolt right in and up and look just like the original 289 with more than enough power?

The car is a smidge high in the front as I'm actually accelerating. This was a still from a short video a friend took today.

I had a powder blue '69 fastback, 302 3-speed. Sure wish I had it now!
