Default casting numbers block (again)

Well, still looking for a block for my 58, been looking on ebay many months, of course looking for a good price, I see 2 blocks advertised as corvette, 3737739 3756519 I looked as block numbers on a list and they both say 58 to 62 2 bolt main, so which is REALLY a vette engine, the casting list does not say 'corvette'. I want to get it rite.

I believe, and others will correct me, that the change over from the 739 block to the 519 block happened in the 1959 model year sometime around March/April 1959. So for a 58, the block should be 739.Wait for others to answer.

Corvette Black Book says BOTH 739 & 519 would be correct

But Colvin's book says 739 is the correct block.

Colvin also says that some early '59s may have also used the 739 block.

Colvin also says that some late '58s may have used the 519 block, but it is unverified.

To be safe and avoid any future second-guessing, I would assume that one would want to use the 739 block. Someone may go by Colvin instead of the Black Book.

As they say - stay in the center of the curve.

If you want, OP, let me know and I can try to scan in the pages from Colvin (an expensive book) and PM them to you later.
