Around 2,200 was stock in many cars from the factory. I had one from Bowtie with a lock up in my '62 with a 383 and a small Haden cooler. The highest the temp ever got was 150 degrees once. It usually ran around 125 to 130.

Better stated, I won't disagree with you. However, I remember around 1800 RPM or so for many of the factory TCs. It varied with TC size and engine size.

A "street" upgrade for these cars was around 2500 RPM stall, with the 3000+ stall speeds for "hot street and strip". Around the 3000 stall speed, an auxiliary trans oil color was recommended.

"Chicago Pete" did a similar setup a few years ago, although the cam was a milder version. I believe he went to 2500-3000 stall with a 4.11 rear. He liked the new combination. But the "full race" 30-30 cam complicates things a bit. Check his threads/posts from a few years back......or send him a PM if he is still an active member. I think he is.

i have a 3200 converter in my 70 Monte with a th400 and 3.55 gears and i don't particularly care for how mushy it is under 3000 rpm - i can't imagine how it would feel with even less gear multiplication. There is a reason GM never used the 30-30 cam in any auto trans car.

Even the old 097 cam would be a struggle with 3.36/powerglide combo.
