Hi all. I have a friend with a 61 that has a 283. The numbers match on the car but the engine numbers are missing. He said he believes it has the letters F and O stamped and where the numbers should be it is blank.
any thoughts??

An intertying thought, the numbers match on the car but are missing? As good a definition of matching numbers as I suspect you will find.

A picture of the 'F' and 'O' letters and the engine pad would help.
When an engine is rebuilt completely many times the top surface of the cylinder decks are milled off to ensure a flat surface and a good seal with the heads. The block deck surface is at the same level as the stamp pad., so when an engine is decked the stamp pad numbers are removed as well.

Thanks to you and nowhere man for your responses I appreciate them.
Some others on the forum would rather be snarky then give a positive response.
Thanks again

When you come up with a statement like you made in the original post you should expect some kind of statement.
Next time, read your post before you submit it and make sure it says what you mean.
