[C1] Rpo 684

Rpo 684
I am new to the forum and would like some guidance on the value of parts I have. The parts were on a Devin I bought and after some research they seem to be the big brake option RPO 684 from a 1959. They are complete but I think the front backing plates are not proper, they have drilled holes in the backing plate versus the mesh ones in the rear.. The setup seems to be in good condition and I verified that the wheels are original 15 x 5 1/5 big brake wheels and the brake pads are metallic with 4 pads and 2 pads . It has Rochester fuel injection dated 1960 with the distributor. It also has what looks to be a 1959 t-10 4 speed. It has a narrowed corvette rear with positraction. The frame is not corvette. It seems to be a shortened and narrowed tri 5 chevy frame.I think the parts would be better served to be put back on a corvette. I would like some guidance on what they are worth.
Thanks,
Marc

Big brake, big wheel, FI car.
The 5 1/2 inch Kelsey Hayes wheels are worth a small fortune. Do you have a set of 4? I have seen a set of four sell for $10K, and one person was asking $15K for a set of four. I think these may have been NOS.
Take lots of pictures of ALL of the parts, including any numbers on the parts.
What motor was in the car?

Pics of the Devin
Here are some pics of the Devin being extracted from the barn.
An interesting possibility is that a late 1959 c1 with all these options on the Devin was wrecked in a hillclimb not 10 miles from where I found the car.
There may be a chance that the builder of the car (deceased) bought some of the go fast goodies from the salvage yard. The 59 C1 blew a motor in 1962 and this has a replacement short block. The fuel injection number is 3008 p[art # 7017320.

Very interesting find. What are your plans for her?

Not sure yet. Thinking about selling off the rare parts to someone restoring a car that could use them and then restoring the Devin with more common parts of that era.
Possibly sell the Devin the way I found it. It seems to have been built somewhere in 1963 range and was raced as a C Modified at Springtown Hillclimbs, from what I can find the last Springtown Hillclimb was 1968 and has been stored since then.

You can do a lot to that Devin for what you can get out of those wheels, the big brake parts, and the FI system.
Obviously condition and completeness of the parts will factor into the value.
Get a complete inventory and lots of pictures of these parts. You will not have problem selling them.

I took pictures of the stamped numbers on the brake drums and wheels. Also of the casting numbers and data plate on the transmission.
Are there other numbers on the brake parts I should look for ie: wheel cylinders, brake shoes and differential?

Make sure you get the numbers from the inside of the wheels as well. If they have old titres on them, get the tires off. The numbers on the inside of the wheels are important.

OK, I have done a little research on your parts...
My rough estimates are:
The 15 x 51/2 inch wheels - $1750 to $2500 per wheel (need to list all of the numbers on the wheels).
The 7320 Rochester Fuel Injection System complete with distributor - $3500 to $4000 as is (again, list all of the numbers).
The 1959 4 speed T-10 transmission - $300 to $400 (assuming rebuildable, and list all numbers)
Big brake shoes,good used - $100 to $150 each
Big brake drums, good used - $750 to $1000 each
Big brake backing plates, correct with mesh - $600 to $800 each
Not sure what else you have at this point.
Low estimates
Wheels - $1750 x 4 = $7000
Rochester FI system = $3500
4 speed transmission = $300
Brake shoes - $100 x 8 = $800
Brake drums - $750 x 4 = $4000
Brake backing plates - $800 x 2 = $1200
Total low estimate = $15,800
High estimates
Wheels - $2500 x 4 = $10000
Rochester FI system = $4000
4 speed transmission = $400
Brake shoes - $150 x 8 = $1200
Brake drums - $1000 x 4 = $4000
Brake backing plates - $800 x 2 = $1600
Total high estimate = $21,200
Nice find, good luck with the sale

Congratulations, that is a very cool find!
Since you say the car ran the Springtown Hillclimb, I'm guessing the car's in PA, or at least once was? Those PA hillclimbs (Giants Despair, Duryea, The Pagoda, Weatherly, and others), were great events. Springtown was in Bucks County PA, and although I've occasionally heard rumors about efforts to revive it, I think they last ran there in the 60's.
Before doing anything with your Devin, you might want to track down some more history on the car. The PA Hillclimb Association is still promoting events, and may be of some help in documenting the car's past. Depending on what you find out, it may make sense to keep all those early Corvette parts with the car. http://pahillclimb.org/
You might also want to try to contact Dave Zavestsky of Wellsboro PA. Dave has a beautifully restored 59 Devin-Chevy, that he regularly vintage races here in the Northeast.
This is Dave's Devin 283 at the VSCCA/VRG race at Thompson Speedway, back in June.

Does it make sense to sell the brake system as a package?
