[C2] Fuel gauge bench test.
#1
Fuel gauge bench test.
Were getting ready to drop the body back on the frame this week and I would really like to verify the fuel level sender reads right while it's in the open. Original 66 gauge and new aftermarket sending unit. I wasn't aware that GM ran battery power to the sending unit. I thought I read somewhere about a resistor that is supposed to be on the back of the cluster. Any pictures of that would be helpful, I don't think this one has it. What do I need to hookup with the cluster and sending unit on the bench?
Thanks
Nick

How to test
I'm bring this thread back up because my fuel gauge doesn't work and there are good diagrams on it. But I still don't see how to test the gauge itself? What would I do to see if its the gauge or the sender? Can I take the wires off the sender and do something to see if the gauge works?

The C2 gauge is unique from the other year gauges - it uses a voltage divider.....the sending unit "slider" picks off a voltage that is compared to a baseline voltage - so, this is the only vintage Corvette sending unit that is powered - which makes testing the gauge interesting.....it can be bench tested with a 100 ohm potentiometer. I can't find the article right now but I've posted it before...
