66 Corvette Big Block hood

66 Corvette Big Block hood
Hello, I am working on a 66 Corvette project that has been a super stock drag car since the 70s. I bought the car with no motor and have since put in my 427. My motor originally had a Weiand Team G but to try and get as much room under the hood as I could I switched it out with an Edelbrock Victor manifold which is a little bit lower and I am using a Dominator carb. I still had to trim some of the front vent tube off of my carb and the hood will finally close but its very close and not sure if its gonna affect the air flow that carb will need. The car has a very expensive and detailed paint job a few years ago and its an original big block car with the original 66 big block hood, so I do not want to mess the hood up by adding scoops or anything. So my question is, I cant tell by looking at pictures online, but does the 67 big block hood have anymore height then the 66? My next question does anyone know of anybody who is making a cowl type hood for these cars as I can't seem to find any online. I see some cars with some nice cowl induction style hoods but I am assuming the only way to get that is to maybe buy a old stock hood and buy the cowl scoop and make my own? I don't want any huge scoops just enough to let the carb get the air it needs. As of now I only have about 1/2 clearance on front of carb and about 2" at rear of carb. Have a feeling by time I get a hood that works and have it painted to match the car its gonna be quite expensive.
I can attach some photos of the car I am working on, whats the best way to post photos since it seems no one is using photo bucket anymore.
Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

This one might do the trick

A stock 67 hood doesn't have much more clearance than a 66 hood, and that's not much. The rim of my air cleaner cover is just over the bottom of the rain gutters. Factory air cleaner, Holley carb and square port intake manifold. Performer RPM or Victor aren't going to fit well under a stock hood.

Since this appears to be a dedicated race car, you might consider fabricating hood spacers for the back. Here is a thread from a few years ago that got waaay off track, most pictures are missing but it may give you some ideas.

Here are my pictures of the spacers I made.

Wow, cool vintage paint job. Looks more like it was done a few DECADES ago, not years ago.

Yes, AL bar and rod. Drilled and tapped the bar stock and threaded the rod.

I know it's a lot more work, with painting and everything, but I know someone makes a C2 hood with a C3 L88-style cowl induction scoop. I believe that would have extra clearance.

Sweet car!! That style paint job brings back memories from the '60s - '70s time period. What are your trap times and speed??

First....fantastic car! Wow!
I've typed this out 3 times now and tried to attach pics and the Forum is acting goofy for me tonight....but I'll try again without pics and see how it goes.
I measured the two hoods way back when and the ones I checked actually had a little more clearance on the '66. Even the Grand Sport hood was a hair shorter than the '67 427 where you need it.
I used an OLD Team G and it worked. Those intakes have an angled carb pad like a stock intake and that helps a lot. It has to be an OLD one identified by having the bolt hole in between the intake ports at the top. It worked well on my 427 but was a little small for my 540.
A Holley Strip Dominator is also cut correctly on the carb pad and is similar height to a 427/425 intake. It's for a 4150 carb though...but work very well.
Another choice is the old dual plane Edelbrock C454. It's a great intake made for rectangular ports and a Dominator. We tested it in the 80's back to back at the track on a low 10 sec Camaro and it was essentially identical. It's also period correct for your car. There was also a C400 with oval ports for a 4500 carb, a C427 for rectangular ports and a 4150 and a C396 for ovals with a 4150.
There was also a weird Holley dual plane for a Dominator. I haven't seen one in years but the ones I remember all had small oval ports and would need some serious porting. But they did accept a Dominator.
You can also angle mill your intake. I've had several for Corvette's. You have to weld up the bolt holes on the pad and then mill the carb pad at an angle and re-drill/tap the carb mount holes.
I also installed hood latch extensions on mine for use at the track with a 1" spacer under the 1050 Dominator. I think it also relieves some under hood pressure at speed.
The last trick on my car is I've installed 1" spacers under the body mounts to raise the whole body/hood to clear the carb (before I went to turbos and EFI). Takes a little work...but sure makes everything easier to work on! Just set car height with the springs afterwards.
Good luck....and keep posting pics!

I would do everything I could to not have to mess with that lovely old school paint.
Investigate Hotrod's suggestions. If you've spent any time at all on this forum, you already know he knows his stuff on these cars in a drag setup.
