MY 1956 P&A Catalog is dated April 1, 1956. It does list the 1110872 distributor (w dual points) as the part for 1956 CORV.
My March 1, 1957 P&A catalog sows the 1110879 as the distributor for 1956 Corvette. The 1957 Corvette with dual 4bbl distributor is 1110981.
NCRS says the changeover occurred around May 11, 1956 (approx VIN 2450), and some overlap may occur.
I used to own VIN 2117 with an estimated build date of April 24th. It had an 872 distributor dated 6 C 5 (March 5, 1956).

Burning Brakes
A dealership book will be punched in notebook form so as changes are made pages are replaced with identical page numbers with the updated parts. A dealership book dated April 1,1956 will then show the updates thru to at least 1-1-57. So in my April 1. 1956 dealership book it shows the 879 distributor instead of the 872.(879 replaces the 872 on 10-1-56). The dealership books I see also have rounded corners instead of the normal squared off corners.

Mine are stapled together and have squared corners.
