1966 AO Smith bodies
I posted this in the NCRS discussion boards and I got one yes and one no so I'm still slightly confused. Were AO Smith bodies used on 1966 Corvettes with the 427 engines? I believe yes, but want some additional confirmation from the forum group.

Yes. It was the '67 model year that had problems with AO Smith bodies for the 427, due to issues with the paint striping for the stinger hoods. There appear to have possibly been a very few exceptions to that very early in the production run.

You need to go back and re-read the NCRS thread. All the replies confirmed that there were A.O.Smith big block cars in 1966. The issue was with sidepipes. No A.O.Smith cars, regardless of year, were built with sidepipes.

Yes, I own one. It is one an early 66 convertible 427/390. AO Smith body. I have read the same about issues with the 67 BB hood pinstriping and really have no idea but I can verify that in 66 they produced them.
