Need Purchase advice
Checking out a good running coupe. I snapped these pictures of the trouble areas and wanted to get your opinions. I think it is just the paint cracking but I'm not sure. The car has virtually no rust and I got up under the glovebox and spotted a clean looking bird cage. There was also a gap in between the door and roof but I think it only needs a hinged adjustment. Any input helps.

Hard to tell. That can be evidence of a bad bird cage, but those pictures are not conclusive.

x2 rust or some body work going bad it happens. Hard to tell what lurks sometimes.

St Louis did put on a seam sealer in those areas and that can tend to crack over time as it drys out and shrink. That could be what your seeing and I think it is. If it was rust I think you would see rust color stains running out of it.

That would make sense. The areas were all very hard with no soft spots when i touched the areas. This was the only areas that had any cracks in the paint.

If it was me I would pull the trim behind it and inspect it.

For a healthy five figure investment, I totally agree with making sure of what you're seeing. If it's nothing, awesome. If it's a holy birdcage, you'll be relieved that you discovered it before plunking down your hard-earned cash. If you buy it without finding out, you could be in for a five figure loss.

Old caulk in the drip rails applied at the factory. What was GM thinking? You can dig it out to check for rust, then replace it with 3m strip caulk. There are threads on this subject.
