Need a replacement oil filter for a 1965 327 250 HP
I currently have the following filter on my 327. Pro Motion PH 4631, Previous owner installed.
I'm looking for a spin on replacement.
Auto zone looked at me like I had two heads. They weren't sure of a correct replacement. Oil recommendation?
Thx, Sully

Sure it's not a Promotive 34631? Found that on e-bay. It appears your engine has been converted from the original canister filter to a spin-on. The SB Chevy spin-on conversions are all basically the same. Go to your NAPA store and get a 1069, 21069, or 31069. (Same filter design, different price levels.)

4631 is a common Purolator filter number. It's a long Chevy screw on filter. Any Auto parts store should be able to cross reference it to the brand they sell. The next time you go into the auto parts store ask to see the oldest fart there--He will be able to find you anything. These young whippersnappers only know how to look things up on the computer. The older guys have it all in their heads.

NAPA 1060 Gold. It’s actually black and you can peel the label off and it looks more like the original canister filter housing.

Semi-retired. Retired from the NYSP in '13. Picked up on options by the Schenectady D.A. a year later. Having a ball. Great team at the DA's office. I originally only intended to stay a year, now working on 3 1/2 +.
Thanks for the advice on a filter, what about oil for my first oil change.

Any 15W-40 CJ-4 or CK-4 is fine, and house brands like Walmart's SuperTech are less expensive than the national brands.
I swear half the guys on this forum must be being paid by Shell to push Rotella.
If you want all the rationale on why you should use C-category rather than S-category, search for a thread started by me - engine oil for vintage... download and read the pdf.
