1963 Convertible questions???? Help please
OK, I posted a thread last week. Took a look at the car today and just need some advice from the C2 guru's.. I am enclosing some pics and vids (if I can) to show. The engine is numbers matching. No rust on bird cage under glovebox or windshield. I took some vids and will enclose (poor quality sorry) Drives straight, 89K miles, Cali car, Looks like had a repaint in some spots, but really not sure. The only problems i know of is the engine reves to 2k until you hit the gas then comes down (stuck choke?) The drivers side door looks very tight in the back. Pic enclosed. Looking to get an estimated price if I can, I know, I know, very hard to do. But anything helps. Thanks guys

Dont like the way that door, or fender lines in front of it look. Who knows what these old cars have been through. Will wait for the paint pros to chime in

Car looks like a nice driver. You have good photos, but you didnt take any of the problem areas like behind glove box lower windshield, frame in front of rear tires, underbody fiberglass under front nose etc.
As for price, why dont you ask the owner what they want for it?
Seems easier than posting to us yahoos....

Looks like a 64 master cylinder, the doors could be tweaked a bit for a nicer fit, but, it appears to be a decent car...in a nice color.

Panel fit is what it is on these old cars...if anything I think the drivers side hinges are showing wear due to the sag at the rear. Agree with earlier post that the doors could use some adjustment.
You need to be looking much, much deeper at the car...
For example, the fuel line, regardless if there is a rear fuel input on the Edelbrock carb, the fact that someone would run that line over the exhaust manifolds is very troubling.
When I see stuff like this, it makes me want to retorqe every nut and bolt on the entire car...what else is lurking?
Anyway, the limited view of the frame rails and the pickup area suggest that this car is solid...not much rust...hard to say for sure, but you will probably find much of the suspension needing new bushings, etc. I can see what appears to be overspray in the wheel wells...so it may have been wrecked and touched in a few places.
Overall, this car will need some reconditioning and will need constant attention as they all do.
How are the brakes? Does it drive straight? Any receipts for any work done?
Low $30s for me...

I would have to know what carb is on there to diagnosis the engine rev issue....very likely a stuck choke. With no valve cover horsepower decals I assumed a 250hp car, meaning the stock air cleaner would unlikely fit an Edelbrock without some mods....

It may well be a replacement door from a donor car that was never trimmed/adjusted to fit this particular body. Also, below the door, is that a paint line on the top of the lower trim or just a reflection of paint? If paint, it would seem to indicate questionable paint preparation work.

Ask if you can remove the rectangular shape plate shown in pictures in front of each rear tire. There are two, one on each side. Not a big deal to remove. Once remove you can see the condition of the birdcage at this location. Reason for plate is to access one of the body mounting bolts.

Fixing the hinges (if they need it) and re-aligning the door is a Saturday's work. Swapping on an original-style carb with safer fuel line routing - less than that....
If it starts, stops, idles smoothly, accelerates smartly with no smoke or weird noises I think its worth making an offer. I can't hazard a guess as to price....I've seen 63 convertible prices all over the map...
I'm well aware that the dual snorkel air cleaner fits AFBs and WCFBs; I've run both under mine. Many will swap a Cater AFB air horn with an Edelbrock to get the best air cleaner fit.
Better just to get an original-style carb IMO.

Owner says minimum she will take is 45K, I looked at the bird cage under dash in front of glove box and everything is very nice. No rust at all. Paint on body line is just a reflection. To me looks like a repaint in some spots. Also comes with a factory hard top. When we took it for a ride the passenger door had a ton of air coming through it, I guess the weather strip that was on it must be bad as all the other ones look bad too.

Get someone that knows 63's to look at it first and if you buy it just enjoy the car.

The car looks good to me, if the birdcage is nice 45 is probably a real number IMO. looks like lots of 63 stuff is there on the car so it's history may be fine. post as many pics as you can, it may be a nice car for a driver but if you have dreams of taking apart to be perfect you will go upside down.
