Default 3 deuces under a small block hood?

I know I've seen at least one setup but it was using the small mushroom style air cleaners which I don't care for and the front one looked bent downward anyway. I'd think some sort of oval shape might work but it would have to have a drop style base.

If not that I wonder if the carb spacing for the big block setup is the same so I could start with the top and the element and fab a drop base?

I don't think they will fit under a SB hood. I am using an Edelbrock intake with Rochester carbs. The air cleaner is also Edelbrock but I don't think they make it anymore. I have a 67 BB hood and I still had to cut the air filter element down from 2" to 1 1/2 to have what I thought was sufficient clearance under the hood. I never considered some type of drop base filter. If you can find an Edelbrock base you may be able to make a drop style from there. 348/409 blocks use the same small base carbs but the Carb spacing is different.

Eye candy for sure but probably wouldn't even fit under a big block hood.

I still have your original post bookmarked and knew you had to use a BB hood plus cut down the element. I think I'm just going to have to give up the idea of fitting 3 deuces under a small block hood.

A friend has 3x2 on a small block in a 79. They are little bell shaped air cleaners as nothing else.
He got them from Charlie price in Vero Beach Florida I think it's vintage speed. Not sure if he's still around it's been a few years. Good luck.

I can't answer your question but can tell you I have always been a fan of multi carbed cars and early FI.

I have had dual quad Cadillac, SB Corvettes, tri powered BB Corvettes, Tri powered GTO, A12 Super Bee, and dual quad Hemis but never a tripowered SB. I had always hear they had hood fitment problems.

My brother had a 63 Impalla SS with a 301, high rise manifold and a 780 Holley with a 4.11 4 speed. Some guy with a 1965 Corvette, can't remember what hood he had on it although I was there and saw the car, this guy convinced my brother who was drag racing his 1963 into swapping carbs and manifolds. The set up coming off the 65 C2 Corvette used small chrome air cleaners, one per carb all the same size. My brother used the same exact set up on his Impalla after the swap.
He later installed a 327/300 into that car after blowing up the 301. The 300 was stock, the 301 had a big cam and was faster.
I always loved the sound of the 3 2's as the small block wound up towards 7,000 RPM. It sounded incredible.
I think his car might have driven better with his 780 Holley. Can't remember which set up was faster at the track because he had just installed the 4.11 about the same time as the 3 2bbl set up.

I had a 3x2 setup (Rochester 2GC's) on the Buick "nailhead" in my '53 in '59, and it definitely needed a hole in the hood for clearance; that hole got a LOT bigger when the 6-71 blower and dual WCFB's replaced the 3x2 setup.

Default Don't give up yet- you can do it

Check out post #5, it obviously can be done https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...tri-power.html. Dunno about mid years, but solid axle cars have very limited hood clearance issues. The stock 60 cleaner element is only about 1-5/8" tall, the hood will not accommodate a more traditional 2" height. It took me years to come up with an acceptable tri power air cleaner setup, but have to use the stock element. One method was to use a stock 14" round air cleaner top and filter element with a thin aluminum base with proper carb spacing cut out. The other was to use an aftermarket 4 barrel oblong 15" by 8.5" air cleaners top, a thin fabricated base with the three holes cut out, and a stock 62 filter trimmed and shaped to fit the top. You have to take out about one inch of diameter from the stock 62 filter and then shape it into an oval.
Believe the stock mid year elements are very short as well, you will have to check that out.
If I had to do it again for the tripower, I would go with a hood scoop and whatever air cleaner (or cleaners) that ring your chimes. Multiple carbs are great eye candy and sound terrific!
