Default 63 hardtop rebuilding?

I have taken my hardtop apart to paint and change the seals and install a new window.

Now I need to see where all the assorted bits go back on. It has been a long that I took it apart. any pictures or drawings would be helpful.

Also, if you don't already own a copy of the AIM, get one. It shows the hard top as well as the rest of your vehicle. Invaluable resource.

I noticed on the video that the inside metal trim of the hardtop is painted. On my 64 the trim is chromed. Is mine not original? I like the chrome look.

Does anyone have a picture of this installed?

In the catalogs it shows that it is for the rear window on a 64-67 but my new window is for a 63. So do I need it on the 63 rear window?

This top is from my 63. Don't think it is a 63 but here it is: https://mrtexascitrus.weebly.com/63-...e-hardtop.html

I really do not want to drill into this new window, So now I wonder if the 63 hardtop did not have the two brackets and my top is from a 64?

In the Zip web site it lists the upper and lower brackets for 64-67. I ordered a window for a 63.
So should I leave the brackets off?

What is the date code on the old window? The hardtop on my 63 has a hole on top and bottom, but the window is date coded as a 64.

I don't remember when the 2nd tab was added. I think that all 63's and early 64's only had the top tab. New plexiglass does not have the holes drilled. You'll have to drill them (it). Do this after the top is completely assembled. Unless the drill slips, you can't really screw anything up.

Accuracy not guaranteed, but from my research, there were at least three different hardtop configurations in ’63. Early ‘63’s had a slight notch above the rear edge of the door that ran to about March ’63. Tops from approximately April through June ’63 did not have the notch. ’63 tops prior to about June had only one reinforcing bracket at the top of the Plexiglas. Tops after about June ’63 have reinforcing brackets at the top and bottom center of the Plexiglas.

Very late ’63 through ‘67 tops were essentially the same. There was a change to hardtop headliners for ’66 and ‘67. Early headliners (63-E65) were woven fiberglass dyed and glued to insulation, while ’66 and ’67 headliners were vinyl-covered foam. Then there was the ’67 only black vinyl covered hardtop.

This is the only markings on the old rear window that has two holes drilled in it.
I wonder what will happen if I don't drill and add the reinforcement brackets?

Not happy to drill into a new plexiglass window.

They are there to hold the plexiglass from blowing out. If you don't put the screws through, the brackets are doing nothing.

I think the 12 4 means December 64.

The Plexiglas date stamp is obviously the best indicator of your top’s model year. The format of the date codes changed over the years and yours looks like the ’63-Early’65 format. ’63-E’65 windows had the date below “Plexiglas” on the same line as “AS4” with the date characters MM – YY.

Your pic isn’t that clear, but I can see what looks like 12 - ?4. If the code is December ’64, it would make your top an early 1965.

My (original owner/original top) 63 is a mid-May car and has the reinforcing brackets at the top and bottom.
