Default My Favorite Engine Stamp Pad

This was a car for sale on ebay several years ago. Several guys posted and said they didn't like the characters or the pad itself but everyone missed the big item. LOL.

I keep a file of some of the more incredible stamp pads. Here is one that I am particularly fond of

Fonawanda is a classic. Here is one in another 67 I inspected personally several years ago. I don't think I ever posted this. Talk about missing the Forest for the Trees....

Yes, the F would be Flint but all big blocks were built at Tonawanda. So..... Fonawanda? The seller later corrected the pad and replaced the F with a T. Still claiming the original engine in a later ebay listing though.

Yeah, looks like a lot of meat missing from the deck.

Here's the restamped pad with a correct T instead of F. The ad appeared on ebay again a few months later.

No idea. To me the most egregious part was that the VIN and build date are stamped in the wrong locations for a big block. The block itself was not even a 3904351 casting....

One of the best that I ever saw (and I did not get a picture of it) was a 1974 454 coupe.

The engine had been rebuild, and the deck shaved, removing the original numbers.

The owner of the car asked the machine shop to replace the numbers that had been removed (he requested a restamp).

The machine shop complied. The problem is that they did not know what numbers were originally on the pad anymore.

So they restamped the engine pad, WITH THE ENGINE BLOCK CASTING NUMBER.

This car was being sold by a large Corvette dealer in Fort Lauderdale, FL in 1985 when I saw it. I often wondered what happened to that car.

Some years ago, these were for sale on ebay. You could take your pick between a 400 or 435. I've been looking for the "re-born" car but haven't run across it yet.

Sort of redefines then term "gang holder".

I have a deep file of some hilarious stamp pads.

I got this from a seller that I was about to buy a plane ticket to see when I was shopping a few years back...

This one is creative; a 1957 283 hp fuel injected engine pad created entirely with straight edge tools (chisels, straight edge screwdrivers, etc.)

And here is a 56 2x4 powerglide engine. I actually think this one was restamped by the dealer back in the day as part of an engine replacement.

I inspected this '57 for a client back in 2005 - the "EN" suffix was interesting, since Flint V-8 records show none were built; client passed on it.

I actually begrudgingly admire the effort expended

In the 60's, GM dealers/mechanics were required to transfer engine stamp characters when replacing a partial engine under warranty. Almost none were done though. That may have been the case in the 50's too but I don't know if it was.
