rubbing noise on my 64 vette
Having a little engine issue with my 327/300 so i went out to 'blow it out' yesterday. When i turned in my drive i could hear a rubbing noise that seemed like it was coming from the passenger side rear wheel. The car is original, i.e. drum brakes and K/H aluminum knock off wheels. Any notions?

Pull the wheel and remove the brake drum and look for anything out of place

Lots of possibilities but if it does it primarily while turning I would look for excessive play in the hub/spindle assembly or bearing looseness. It may center itself and run quietly in a straight line but cornering forces and some play may throw the alignment of the shoes and drum off and create some rubbing or drag.

The first question should be, "...what size tires are you using?"...
You can also put the car on a level surface, in neutral, parking brake off and push it from the rear bumpers while listening carefully for the rubbing. You can even turn the steering wheel and do it while simulating a turn.
Doesn't always find the issue but its an easy first check.

So I assume the noise was NOT there when you were driving it???
And when you pull into your driveway...is the car level or do you have to pull up a grade (slight hill) when pulling in off the street???
Do you have full exhaust that goes out the back or side exhaust???
