1957 FI latest production date?
What is the latest date that a 1957 Fuel Injected 283/283 Corvette would have been produced?
I have a 283 block stamped F809EL.

Kenneth Kaiser's book, p. 393-95, says August 57 Corvettes have engine stamp dates between 7-17-57 and 8-05-57. The RPO-579 V8 inventory was nearly depleted and St. Louis was building a rigid, fixed build-out plan. Only two surviving September 57 Corvettes are Fuel Injected, perhaps indicating that most RPO-579 fuel injection were previously built out in August.

Tom,
As far as I know, 6339's whereabouts are unknown.
6338 was definitely an FI car, built on or about September 6. It's the famous racer that started as a 579D, and at the insistence of buyer Art Saylor was converted at the factory to a 579C with 684 (airbox removed).
If the August built FIs had engine assembly dates to 8/5/57, it seems reasonable that this block with the assembly date only four days later might be appropriate for a September FI. It seems unlikely that 6338 would have been the only one.
Maybe it's 6338's original block!
