I believe all early C4's used 16" rims, and then later 17" rims due to brake caliper clearance. Have you tried your stock 15" rims on the C4 hubs with the calipers in place?

And the early C4 brakes were nothing to shout about. I changed my 87 to the later brakes, and felt like they should of been there from the start (although they just barely cleared the 16" stock rims, so the calipers required a little trimming on the fins).

15" wheels will easily clear the single pot calipers of the early C4 suspension. To use 15" wheels with the late C4 suspension, you are limited to the standard brakes (12" x .8" rotor) and even then, the caliper fins need some trimming.

I'm using '84 rear hubs/knuckles, as they're narrower than the later suspension design. This causes less additional headaches when narrowing a C4 suspension to use stock 15" wheels. The 15" wheels will fit over the stock C4 (11.5") rear rotors no problem, but with a narrowed C4 suspension the stock sliding calipers don't package well due to the piston/cylinder portion of the calipers like to intrude inward where the C3 frame rails are. I ended up making a custom bearing carrier/caliper bracket to then use Wilwood calipers which give sufficient clearance from the frame rails.

On the '96 front I use 11.75" Wilwood two-piece rotors to get the right offset to clear the steering knuckle and to also fit Wilwood calipers under the 15" wheels. Again, this took a custom bracket to mount the calipers.

Everything fits, and it looks stock to the casual eye.
