Default '63 Grill Restoration

There's probably an easier way, but then I would miss out on the fun of placing yards and yards of tape around the mounts.

I thought about doing that to mine but after seeing all the work decided mine was pretty enough as it was.

Lacquer thinner and Q tips will take care of that.

I haven't painted yet, but I'm guessing that I shouldn't paint over the rivets?

Whew! And I thought there was nothing worse to tape up than a '67 gas door.

That would be the cross-hatching on 63 hood cookie sheets...that has to be the worst.

Why don't you simply drill the rivets out. Paint, buff and re-rivet.

I can't see your phots for whatever reason.

Rivets are available from some GM parts vendors.

There's about 50-60 of them!

I'll just put the little round stickers on each one. That makes it pretty easy.

That's the route I went, but I was replacing two damaged bars. The only OEM rivets I found were at DR.Rebuild at a buck each, and he only had 15. I went with a Hanson rivet that were very close. And once set, it is very hard to tell they are not OEM.

Very difficult to drill each rivet on center on these grills. I've found that using a sharp wood chisel to shear the heads off is a much faster and easier way to disassemble the grill.
