I will (hopefully) attach a picture sent to me of a 65 396 block casting code. It makes no sense to me. Has anyone ever seen 8355932 -assuming that I am reading it correctly?
Maybe the operator in charge of casting codes had a bad night.......or no sleep at all.
I would look at the casting date, and front pad to see what they say. Also any other block casting imprints. Maybe a factory mistake............but I would be thorough in the complete checkout of this block.
Stamp pad only shows last 6 of VIN. Trim tag is a repro since they changed interior color from blue to red. There is only the repro tag and a picture of what they say is the real trim tag...
I don't have pictures that are good enough to show the gussets. The seller is a bit irritated and stopped replying when I pointed out that the casting code was odd.

thats usually a sign the seller knows something is wrong
It looks like most of the correct characters are there but just in the wrong places with one incorrect. The first two are reversed and the 6th character should be a 6 instead of a 3.

I have no dog in the seller's or buyer's hunt, but sometimes sellers with non-matching numbers cars dream about finding an uniformed buyer and are hoping to get matching numbers prices for a car with a hodgepodge of random parts. Sometimes sellers are willing to rationalize their integrity for dollars to stretch mealy-mouth words to "allow" the seller to conclude that they are looking at a true survivor, when they know that a car is, in actuality, not original. Shocking, I know.
I don't personally care if your or my car has matching 1965 oil in the crankcase or matching 1965 air in the original tires; however, like it or not, mid-year Corvette prices are strongly skewed by and to the numbers matching narrative. Doesn't matter if you like it, agree with it, or despise it - it's reality for C2 prices.
What's that term - Caveat Emptor? Yeah, that's it.
