I like the barn found look as well. Check out this one owned by Brian Bair of Bairs Corvettes. He did just what you suggested.

I like that car a lot as it sits but would be careful about birdcage rust. There's some crustiness that indicates it was out in the weather a lot before it was put away. Maybe it was a daily driver for a long time.

I used to drive buy it sitting behind a house under a tarp for years. The original owner repeatedly told me that it was not for sale. He passed away and his nephew and put the car up for sale. I went to see it. The picture that I posted was in the garage. I always wondered what must be so good that the Corvette sat outside for all of those years. About 5min from there sat a '61 outside for so long that the rear bumpers rotted off and were sitting on the ground where they fell off.

There are 10X as many 396/425hp cars. Think of it this way. There are lots of guys out there building what they call restomods. The cars that bring the best money have the newest driveline components. The newest chassis suspension components. Custom interior. Let alone body mods and paint. Many stuff a crate motor a set of wheels and call the same car a restomod. There probably 10x as many of the latter. You can see the similarity here in price.

I only know this much because I happened to drive by one day when one of the old tarps had partially blown off.

Holy crap.....36,600 currently. Now owner's going to be upside down pretty quick on that one. I hope it's his dream car and he'll get a life time of fun out of it.

If one was to buy the car, restoring it with the thought of reselling for a profit-it's not going to happen at least in my life time. This is my hobby-and as you guys know an expensive hobby at that. The red car is a 100% rotisserie build 64 Olds F-85 Pro Touring build, I have on for 7 years. I will NEVER get close to what I have in that ride when it comes time to sell, but the wife and I will be hitting the road when shes done enjoying the ice cold AC listening to XM radio! I spend my kid's future inheritance on my cars! Just my thoughts

I didn't think you could get A/C with a 365 horse car. I learned something new today. I thought there was sort of a rule of no A/C with solid lifter cars.

I'm pretty sure neither the A/C, nor the 365 work, though...

This option combo was only available on 1964 and 1965 Corvettes. The better combo was the 350hp L-79 with AC . Smaller 4 quart oil pan allowed PS.
In 65, only 227 coupes and 138 convertibles were made with AC and 365hp. Original nice SURVIVOR examples are in the 80-125 price range today.

The 365 with AC had a larger Air compressor clutch than standard AC cars. This way the belt driven compressor turned slower. Also, you could NOT get power steering, as the 6 quart oil pan would not allow the the ram assist to fit under the pan.

Where are you finding ANY evidence of this combination bringing that kind of money? I certainly find no evidence of it anywhere. Do you have any sales at those figures you can point to?

many cars change hands quietly. Especially good cars.

And just like that, right before the auction ends, all bids are retracted. Total BS with shill bidding from a friend or two most likely. I knew someone would have to be out of their mind to bid that car for $41,200.

Yeah - I brought up shill bidding in post #29 above. Folks had talked this car up into the $125K range if fully restored to explain the crazy run-up in the bids....
Didn't pass the smell test IMO.
The seller ended the auction because there was an error in the listing -- according to eBay.
