Default 1956 trunk color

Does anyone know the correct color to be used in my 1956 trunk? It's a white car with red interior. Some info online indicates the trunk should all be painted red like the interior instead of white like the body color, with a red mat and maybe a black liner across the front of the trunk. Does that sound correct? Also does anyone know whether the spare tire should be a whitewall like the tires on the car or just a blackwall? Same for the wheel, red like the others or just black?

According to the NCRS 1956-57 Corvette Judging Manuel
"Trunk interior area and underside of trunk lid paint color should match interior trim color."

Thanks Donald. That's what I'll do then, paint it all red. And a red mat sounds right then. How about the color of the liner across the front of the trunk? Should it be painted red too or left black the way it comes from the supplier? I've seen it both ways in photos online.

The trunk divider is painted the interior trim color in your case red.

Donald is correct on all counts. The spare should match the other four and the wheel would be painted red. Be sure when you paint your wheels that you paint the back of the black and when you spray the red, let it blow through to the backside onto the black. Don't touch up the black, just let the red blow through show. This is of course if you are trying to reproduce the original factory look.

Do you have the NCRS '56-'57 Judging Guide? It's chock-full of hundreds more answers specific to the restoration of your car; if you don't have it, you're flying blind.

I think you meant exterior color for the wheels which is white in this case.

Oops, I thought a white car with red interior had red wheels. Not so? It should have white wheels?

YEP! You should invest in one if you plan to keep the car and return it to factory correct.

The NCRS Judging manual is not specific about the type of paint finish in the trunk, it only says that it should match the interior color. The paint in my trunk ('57) is original, and it has a semi-gloss finish... not gloss. Most likely it was shot with lacquer and not buffed. My trunk divider has been replaced, and it is somewhere between a flat and semi-gloss finish.

And the spare goes face down in the tub, and the jack sits inside the back of the rim and the trunk board. Those are easy to make if you don't have one.
