I thought you had an announcement for admirers of big brake cars.

Can't answer your question.

Not that I am aware of but they should be simple to do for a sheet metal worker.

I was going to say that someone (in the far NW part of the USA) made them MANY years ago. I bought a set about 25yrs ago. Still have 'um, high up on a shelf and the garage. I guess I need to put them on, huh!

I finally got the step ladder out and climbed up to get the dust covered repo fans down for a family "portrait". Here are all 4. And the front and rear compared.
I have no clue how these compare with those made by Paul Mazut, because I've never seen his.

OK, now I know who Paul is. I have a pair of his repo "elephant ears" on the front of the 56 (probably got them about 20yrs ago). Pretty good repos in my opinion, so his fans are probably pretty good also.

Fronts and rears. Fronts have the large hole and use 2 gaskets. One on each side of the fan when they are sandwiched between the hub and oil or grease sling. The rear used no gaskets.

The front fans are attached by the wheel studs and the back side of the wheel flange. Thus, to add fans to the front, then the 5 studs have to be knocked out to install the fan between the wheel flange and the deflector, as below (one of my spare hubs).
The rear fans simply fit onto the outside of the axle wheel flange.

I've had these fans for many years and just have not taken the time to pull the front hubs, take them apart and install the fans. Don't ask me why, I just haven't.

Thanks Tom and PFMAZ;
That explains it. I had thought the fronts just fit between the brake drum and hub flange.

Sent Doug an e mail about his comment reference some announcement . Perhaps his memory is as bad as mine. I have no idea what he is writing about.

Thanks Tom and the rest for the info. Not sure why I am missing the fans and happy to hear they are reproduced. Not a need , clearly a want. I have a wall like Tom to hang them on...... maybe I need two sets !

You are missing the gaskets in your photos. There was a gasket on each side of the fan.

When I bought the fans 25+yrs ago, that's all I got, no gaskets were included.
Do you have gaskets?

And I replied to your e-mail a couple days ago.

So you don't have to go look for it:

When i first saw the title, I thought you had info for people that like the big brake cars.

Big Brake fans, similar to Football fans, or Star Wars fans. I didn't know you wanted to buy some until i opened the post.

Doug

No, don't watch football or star wars. Passed on free tickets to see the Packers but not my thing. I have a very original 60 FI big brake car I bought a couple years back. I'm third owner. Its missing the fans and ducts so I was looking for information on this subject. It does have the fiberglass tunnels, wide finned drums , linings & wheels. Just a wonder it survived almost six decades in one piece and sixteen options. The last caretaker had it since 1966.
