1957 - Steering Shaft Offset in Firewall Hole
Does anyone have any pictures like this of non-hit C1s? My steering shaft is quite far to the left and I am curious if it is like this from the factory. Any help is appreciated.

But if that's the Pitman arm stop, its on the inside of the frame and wouldn't move the box to the left as in the pic, right?

OK, here is the deal.
FIRST, it is supposed to be like that beginning in 56.
Why?
The 6cyl cars had the column coming through the center of the hole. There was NO metal plate on the firewall of 6cyl cars, which the steering column went through.
When the V8 engine was added, a spacer got added between the frame and the steering box, which moved the steering box over, thus, putting the column at a slight angle. The column made contact with the hole which was originally on 6cyl cars, so, the hole was enlarged and a metal plate with a hole for the NEW position of the column, was installed.
Sit in the driver seat of a 56-57 and notice that the column is slightly misaligned in relation to the speedometer.
Here is the plate I'm referring to which was added when the cars got changed to a V8.

but, as Tom alluded, the box could be, if necessary shimmed to tip it more towards the center of the cluster. over that length it wouldn't take much
I wonder if the plate Tom shows is still available?
