Unfortunately that's become true for most of the 'big box' brick-and-mortar stores. Tools, paint, outdoor deck stains, etc are all "dumbed down" versions of the good stuff to increase the profit margin.

Try your local auto parts store for Dupli-color Semi-Gloss Black. Easy to find and it looks right. O'reilly Auto Parts has it. I have cans of all these and find it hard to tell them apart. These are all Lacquer to my understanding.
