Default C2 - Corner of hood keeps popping up

How can I keep the corner of the hood from popping up?

Push it down and it will latch into place, but the minute the car starts moving, it'll pop back up.

How can I adjust the hood latch? Neither the hood pin nor the latch mechanism seem to be adjustable.

On my '66, the latch assemblies are slotted so they can move left and right on the mounting bolts. That's how I was able to do an adjustment to keep the hood from coming unlatched with body movement. Adjusting the hood itself may make a difference, but if the hood gaps to the surround are good, you wouldn't want to mess with it.

When you pull the hood release handle in the cockpit are you immediately pushing it back in once the hood is open ? Sometimes the blades in the hood latches don't reset all the way after opening for various reasons.

The length of the pin is adjustible. Note that the pin nose is slotted. Try loosening the large flat nut that is holding the pin against the underside of the hood, and turn the pin CC a turn or two to make it longer. Tighten the large nut. See if that holds the hood closed.

Mine has mostly all new parts (well they were 25 years ago) and are reasonably well adjusted. But I have a habit of before I close my hood, I grab the little tab on the pass side latch that the cable secures to, and pull it fully to me - which by the cable also pulls over the driver side. Then shut the hood. If I don't do this on some occasions the driver side will pop loose.

This used to happen all the time when I first got the car in 2000. Once I figured out how to adjust the pins as described above, I’ve never had a problem since.

I’ve had that problem a couple of times. The latch mechanism is more adjustable than it appears. Loosen all the screws that mount it and it will slide enough to keep hood from popping. Good luck.

Default Hood

I have tried to slide the latch mechanism where it is mounted on the firewall. It does not appear to have a slotted adjustment. I have adjusted the cables and ensured that the latch is closing all the way. I always push my hood release handle back in.

I am going to try to lengthen the pin next.

Thanks to everyone for responding!

If you need to you can slot the holes in the latch bracket a little to get some adjustment. Since my car had a front ender once, the bracket on one side was slotted quite a bit. For unknown reasons when I put new brackets on it after restoring it, they fit just fine. But a little slotting could be necessary on a 50 year old car. Maybe the pin adjustment will take care of it.

I had this problem on my '65 and it was driving me nuts. The latches looked like they were resetting after I opened the hood but the hood would pop up on the drivers side when I drove. Then one day I was fiddling with the latches and it slid about 1/4". I closed the hood and it stayed closed when I drove. I stopped and opened the hood and wiggled the latch and it moved about 1/4" again. I closed it and it stayed shut as I drove, over speed bumps and uneven payment. Now I do that every time and haven't had the hood pop up again. That 1/4" made the difference with my hood.
