It is missing the 1958 telltale louvered hood and I can't see if it has the 58 only trunk spears. Other than that it "sounds" like a nice drivable car.

Thanks again 68Hemi. I don't guess you could hop a quick flight to BWI so we could go take a look at it, huh?

Seriously though, any vette guy with a keen eye in the MD, DC, PA, VA or DE area who would like to accompany me to see the car and who wouldn't mind being compensated for their time with cold beer, seafood or both...please let me know.

After getting over the initial shock of actually fitting in an old Corvette without having my head shoved into the hard top and knees against the underside of the steering wheel I got rid of the last 3 C1's we owned. Now I can relax in my C2 Coupe in style. It was the best decision I ever reluctantly made. I'm more comfortable now, don't have a steering wheel rash on my pants, my hair isn't messed up, and the biggest kick is having factory air!

well for me I am more comfortable in a mid year with wore out seats. the last 67 I helped restore with new seat foam puts me in a position where its border line comfortable. I am just glad its a auto. my problem in manual mid years is my left knee hitting the wheel and turn single stalk while using the clutch. other then that its a great fit. and to be fair I only tried to sit in a 54.

Plus I don’t know solid axles very well. Get in touch with the Mason Dixon chapter of the NCRS Someone might be in that area

My '67 is an auto and I would say the seats are a little "soft". Lots of room compared to any C1.

Although I drove our '54 on occasion I would refer to the ride as wearing the car rather than riding in it. The '53-55's are by far the smallest/tightest cabin of any car I've ever driven. I made this video driving it after I had the transmission rebuilt.

One of the things many people are not aware of on C2s is that there are seat back adjusters on the bottom of the seat backs that rest on plastic stops. They can be adjusted all the way in to give you a little more headroom but you are still limited by the cargo area lip if the seat is all the way back.

Randy, If you can't find anyone to go with you to look at the '58, maybe you could set up a facetime or skype session with someone. It's obviously not the same as being there, but it might be better than looking at it alone. Just bring a really good light so it's possible to closely inspect the frame, especially in the area of the rear wheels.

If you like it, that's what counts. Just be aware that all of the changes to it might affect your eventual sale of it. And be aware that if you get someone to help you with the purchase decision that doesn't like changes to the old cars, he may try to steer you away for just that reason.

Navigator's job.

Randy, I noticed the 58 you're looking at has pretty wide tires on the front. 7 or 8 inch rims. My car had 8" all the way around but I installed 5 wide fronts and it drives WAY better.

Has both tops, pretty low mileage, very nice chrome and stainless. 5 foot 44 year old lacquer paint. Was in minor left front wreck about 1972 but got pictures with the car of the damage and well done repair.

Has an incorrect 350hp/327 (headers, Holley, high rise) and a super T10 but makes it that much more fun to drive. Interior is diamond-tuck. Oh so 1970's... but I love it and get lots of positive comments because it's not restored. Very dependable and drives nice with stock steering and brakes but does have radials. Easy to maintain and repair. I enjoy doing that and make small cosmetic improvements to the area as repair is done.

I owned a '62 years ago and do like the extra trunk room 1961-2 offers vs 1956-60. It ended up being a judged NCRS car which isn't nearly as much fun as the one I have now.
Beautiful, esp the engine.

C1's on the road where I live is pretty rare. The running joke my wife and I have is how many times will we have to answer what year our 62 is. Usually plenty.

I have a '60 and plan to keep it as long as I can keep getting in and out of it. Make no mistake - with the top up it is quite an adventure for me to get into the car and once in there, its hard to drive for much over an hour without having to get out and stretch. For me, it's not a height issue, it's the arthritis in the knees. I get in by putting the right leg in first, around the other side of the steering wheel, then duck to get my head in, then the butt, and the left leg last. If I screw up that sequence, I have to get out and start all over again. With the top down, it's not bad but the knees still are the issue when driving. BUT.......C1's are awesome!!!! We love the car and it is the hit everywhere we go. I do all the work on mine and that's the best part. This is my 5th Corvette and definitely the one I'm keeping. Good luck in your search. And yes, for less than $50k you should be able to get a nice one but it probably won't be numbers matching and in perfect shape. Mine is not numbers matching, but I don't care - for me its having a C1 that I take to car shows and on trips, sometimes up to 8 hours away, and I don't worry about it breaking down. For me, reliability was requirement #1. And I don't mind getting out every hour and watching people come flock around it.
