Default '66 conv. speaker

Have a '66 conv. w/o air. Sent the radio out for a rebuild. I bought some Focal speakers from Crutchfield but can't get one to fit in the dash. Took the glove box and the clock out, loosened the metal heater duct bracket but the Focal speaker is still too big. Any suggestions on a quality 4 ohm replacement speaker that'll fit?

Go to this website and scroll about 2/3 of the way down and you will find the best replacement speaker for your '66...bar none.
BTW, 4 ohm speaker is NOT what you want. Read the information in the link below.

As Leif stated, Sal this is the speaker you're looking for...

...original on top, replacement on bottom.

It is hands down the best Corvette replacement speaker if you're looking for a stock replacement unit. It's made specifically for '58-'67 Corvettes. It's a direct bolt in replacement. Check the Forum archives and this company and that speaker is what is recommended time and time again by forum members.

Good people and a good product worthy of installation in our cars.

Forgot to mention that Turn Switch is converting my radio to a digital upgrade. So I need something of 4 ohm. I'm installing two Focal speakers in the rear shelf but i need one for the front that'll fit. Someone had said that his speaker could be better????

Isn't a speaker for an original a/c car different?

There is no difference in the air condition and non air condition speakers in original cars. The so called air condition speaker is a Delco service replacement speaker. If you look at the AIM for the C60 air condition option you will not see a difference in speakers for the option.

Look -- if you want an original-style speaker the Electro-Tech is the ONLY way to go...in fact other repros, many of which have the wrong impedance can damage your radio - read the link Leif posted above...

For solid state conversions there is NO better speaker than the Custom Autosound or Eckler's 140W dual voice coil, single cone, 6x9 dash stereo speaker for less than $50.

End of discussion...

If you really want an original speaker, get your original speaker re-coned.

Not everybody starts out with an original speaker - the OP doesn't state that either way..

But yes reconing is an option...assuming that is all that is wrong with the speaker.
