Muncie handle memory imprint
This is not a deep subject thread but struck me as funny how your mind and memories can work. I bought a Muncie faux handle off a member here to install on my Hurst shifter. Last time I rowed a stock Muncie shifter and reverse lockout was sometime around 1984. I installed it and finally got it out for a drive over the weekend and I'll be damned if every time I tried to go to reverse, I pulled up on the reverse slider and tried to ease it over with normal effort into the reverse gate like a stock Muncie sifter - which doesn't work with a Hurst. Then it would occur to me - what am I doing - that reverse lockout doesn't do anything. I have to slam the shifter over to the left to get into reverse.
Funny how old memories and habits can resurface after many years.

I totally get it. I had the same issue when I got my 63 with the Hurst shifter.

Yup - I agree! I still pull up on the fake T bar on my Tremec shifter.

I would embarrassingly grind gears for a while in the Hurst 63 as my 61 had a Tremec 5-speed. The 63s NON lock-out would let me push the lever sideways and up (reverse on a Muncie) seeking 1st gear on 5 speed Tremec. Took me a while to "un-progam" myself...

The older we get, the harder it is to learn and unlearn stuff.
I’m getting pretty close to being completely non-functional.

I'm lucky if I leave the house each day with my pants on

Haha...I've actually done it.....Just Kidding. Not a pretty visual
As far as things being ingrained..... I drove a 1969 Z28 not too long ago trying to decide between it and the 65. When I tried to shift to reverse it would not go...so what did I do? Left out on the clutch just a tad until it went in.
The sales guy sitting next to me made the comment it was good see someone that knew how to do that. Told him I was doing that when he was just a gleam in his dad's eye.

The wife's 2016 Durango has the push button start...it looks a lot like the large radio control ****, gear shift **** and A/C fan ****. If I haven't driven it in a while and jump in I may go through pushing one, some or ALL of the wrong ones before I get the car started...
Stupid thing...

Ha ha - I still jog 3 days a week (turn 67 next week) - with heavy emphasis on jog. I went yesterday after work and got about a half block from the house and suddenly a thought flashed through my mine - I did put on jogging shorts didn't I. I had to glance down to check & confirm.

Had a '98 coupe with automatic. The windshield wiper switch was a stalk on the right side of the column. sort of high. Grabbed it a couple times an pulled it down thinking I was putting it in gear. Stupid.

Thinking of a column shift automatic, or an old “three on the tree”?
