My dad was 16. I didn’t enter the world for another decade after 66. Man, advertising was so much simpler and appreciable. I actually would have looked at that ad and it would have made impact.

Summer of ‘66 I was working on a fishing boat in Panama City, Florida trying to earn money for my junior year in college. $1.00 an hour and all the bait I could eat.

A big thank you to all of you Viet Nam era vets. Uncle Sam didn’t want me.

I was livin' the good life, surfing every weekend, driving a different 60s car almost every week off Dad's used car lot, wrenching with buddies at night, sneaking across the North Carolina state line to buy beer (I was underage) and of course, chasing girls...

In the 10th grade I looked at the war news nightly and thought for sure that would be over in 3 years when I graduated - sadly, not so...

Had cause to reminisce about that time just recently as I met Eddie Munster "Butch Patrick" (all grown up) at the Eckler's Winter National GM show in Orlando last weekend. Great guy!

Pic is of me - not Eddie BTW...

I graduated in 1965 and was chasing girls and hanging out with the guys at Frisches Big Boy in my 1962 Ford Sunliner Hipo 390 401 HP "M" code with 6V 4 speed. Only available in early 1962 until the release of the 406 in late 1962. That car is extremely rare and was then too. I didn't realize it then and ran it to death and then the distributor drive shaft broke and locked up the engine. It probably wouldn't have mattered if I had known how rare it was because I was an 18 year old knucklehead.

Graduated in 65 in Mauston WI. In 66, traded my 60 Olds Super 88 for a new 66 Impala SS and drove across the USA. Joined the USAF in 68. All in all, a fun time.

I wasn't born yet. Anyway, GM was actually sued by a law student over that ad for false advertising. The copy states that the car has 425hp but clearly it is a small block.

I graduated high school in 1966 and had to find a job quick . Nobody was hiring so I had to take a temporary job in a car wash for $1.00 per hour and that wasn't going to buy a corvette so I kept looking and found work in the body shops , better money but still not enough to buy that corvette until I got a job in the steel mill in 1977 where I worked as an overhead craneman with a lot of idle time to look at the newspaper in the crane and close to the end of my shift In the want ads I saw a 1968 Corvette ,4 speed both tops , clean one owner school teacher car for sale for $4,500. As soon as I got off of work I shot over there and before I could walk over to the porch another car pulled up also to see the car . Another minute later and I would have missed it . So that was my first corvette in a long line of corvettes among other hot cars.

was "Barney" the one who burnt her leg on my '65 side pipe car?
