Living in Compton just north of Lions DS where Big Daddy Don Garlits broke another record in the quarter. The year I had to sell my 1963 due to insurance problems.
Working at NAA in CA. Spent time at Edwards AFB on NASA's Gemini Paraglider project. In Downey on Apollo SC 012 (later burned at the Cape) and at the Rocketdyne Stanta Sussana rocket test facility working on the Saturn II (5xJ2's) test bed.

The swamps of south east Asia learning to tread rice paddies turning the adult age of 18. See the world the recruiter said in this distinctive blues uniform. Can't say he was wrong. Saw a corner of the world with third battalion seventh marines infantry with a two way ticket. Never got the fancy dress blues. Sure grew up fast. My world before this experience was a fifty mile radius of a mid west dairy farm.

clarification of which car
I was referring to the period picture of the 1967 shown with the go cart. those rear tires appear to have a high, aggressive, tread as shown in that picture. it was not your 63 I was referring to. (nice looking car)

I am guessing your dad raced there sometime back in those days. A mechanic who worked in his shop was Mark Oswald who went on the be pro funny car driver.

In high school drooling over the first C2 I'd seen, a classmate got one in his senior year. I told myself then that someday I'd own one and when I graduated from college 10 years later (don't ask, it's a long story), I began my search and found my 65 that I still own today.

Earlier I mentioned that I was in geology grad school, but I just remembered I took off the second half of 1966 and worked on offshore oil platforms in Alaska as a geologist. I did the same thing the next year and flew home in 1968 with $7K to finish grad school. "Rich" for the first time, I blew $4K on a year old '67, my first of 21 Midyears and in 1969-70 was forced to work for a year in West Africa on offshore rigs to finish school. Worth it. :yes nod:

In 1966, just graduating from college, and buying a rally red new Corvette like the one that I now own. Except now that I am a "senior", this one had power glide and factory AC. We old farts get smart in our old age.
