Rob,
Looks like another sweet project from you. Nice way to baptize the "new" shop. Sanitary build from a sanitary shop. I'll be following along, as usual.

Thanks! I’m going a little more subdued on this one, I want it to look like a restored car, but with the functionality of a restomod.

We are also building an all out ‘63 Spilt-window restomod for Barrett-Jackson next year SRIII C7 suspension and LT4, gonna be keeping the details under wraps on that one til closer to the auction....

Is that the donor car in what looks like an electron blue?
My dream C2 is a 65-66 Nassau Blue, modern motor & on a modern chasis, so i guess I'll follow along on this one... Lol

Yes, the ‘65 I think its Admiral Blue, I really like Nassau Blue, especially with the blue and white interior.

We will start tearing down the body in the next couple weeks.

Nice looking chassis. Will you be posting details on the chassis?

Well the ‘65 tear down has began, we were planning on stripping to the bare fiberglass but one we started, we realized it was stripped before the last painted job. We decided to leave it and focus on the few small typical cracks around the headlights, should be ready for paint in a few weeks.

The interior is completely out now, going to pull the interior wiring harness and either replace or restore it. Fortunately no surprises yet, the birdcage is in excellent condition!

is that smoke grey glass from Autocity?

What are you doing for a sound system in the car?

Are you putting speakers in the kick panels and if so, what size and type?

thanks....I appreciate you sharing and answering my questions above!

I think the glass is just tinted with film, we will be removing it.

Swapping the original radio to the replica from classic car stereos with Bluetooth, haven’t decided on speakers, we used 4” focal speakers in the kick panels on the 58 project.

Didn't you purchase this car from a forum member? I remember the color. It looks like you got a real nice platform to build on. You're making good progress. Keep the pictures coming.

Thanks, yes I bought it from a nice gentleman in Alabama I found on the Forum. The paint was a little worse than I thought, but the rest of the car was way better than I thought.

This changed my direction on the build.

The paint has been stripped and blocked, we will start the bodywork next week, along with filling the vent in the pillar between the door glass and the rear window.

We painted the small block hood that we are not using just to see the color for the car. It’s going to look amazing!

Hey Rob,

What method did you use to strip this one?

Also, I see another "Masterpiece" in your future!

Take care,

Pat

Can you point out exactly where your frame Vin # was located? I have a '65 and I'm not able to find it yet. Your pictures are clear and would help me immensely. thx, Sully

We have made a little more progress, body has been blocked and should be in primer next week.

Started fitting the bumpers, looking for about 1/4” gap front and rear.

We bodyworked the old flat hood and painted it Nassau blue for a full size sample, it turned out amazing.

I finished restoring the instrument cluster tonight and installed the new gauges, I love the original look.

We used aircraft stripper in the gallon container, that was brushed on and removed with a plastic scraper.

Thanks for the compliment, wanted to build something a little different.

I haven’t pulled the body yet, but I will find and document the VIN once we pull it. I have been told it’s on the driver side on the kicked up section of the frame on the top near the rear tire.

The other chassis is from the ‘63 split-window we are building, and with the poweder coating, the number is long gone.

Lots of progress on the ‘65 LS3 with 6L90 mocked up on the chassis with the body installed. We had to clearance the trans tunnel to fit the much larger 6L90 6 speed auto. We will trim the lower portion of the dash panel and the bottom ends of the dash pads. They are being recovered in matching Nassau Blue Vinyl to match the light blue Daytona Weave carpet.

This should be a very seamless transition and look stock when complete. I believe we will be able to adapt a stock power glide shifter to work with the new 6 speed.

Moving the car back to the body shop to gap the doors and while its on the chassis before pulling back off for final bodywork and paint.

Here are a few pics of the rear bumpers after being fitted to the body, carpet, and trans tunnel.

Bumpers have been cut and tucked tight to the body both front and rear, and sent out for fresh chrome. Tunnel has been glassed in. Door, hood and headlight gaps have been tightened.

We shot the gel coat today, next will be cleaning up the engine bay and underbody before painting the body.

Here are a few pics...
