Default 66 Plug Wire Clip Location

I am trying to put my butchered 66 plug wires back to the original configuration. The assembly manual shows a clip (grp. 2.251, 3744409) I believe is held by an oil pan 1/4-20 bolt. Problem is I can't tell where the clip is supposed to be installed.... 3rd hole back (under freeze plug) or 4th hole back?

Tom,
Does your '66 have a radio? If so, you won't be using those clips to retain the wiring, as the wiring is fully contained inside the chrome boomerang shields on both sides.

They are in different positions LH & RH side. Basically, find the oil pan machine screw directly under the apex of the boomerang shield. On LH side, this is just fwd of the dipstick tube bulge. On RH, it goes just fwd of the starter ... that is one position different than LH.

If you temporarily hold the two side "V" shields in place, you will see which oil pan bolt is to be used for the wire clips.

Yes... I have a radio and the boomerang shields. What threw me off is that I have never been able to find the correct OEM plug wires and so there has always been wire sticking out below the boomerangs. I thought this clip addressed that problem. Obviously my conclusions were wrong because the wires were wrong. I just ordered the gold plated wires from LL. They are twice the cost but if they get my wires where they are supposed to be it's worth it. Thanks for the replies. Now I can make jewelry out of the clips.

The clips (p/n 3744409) are used -- radio equipped or not. Locate them as presented in posts 3 & 4.

I installed the new correct plug wires and the V shields. As was posted- the wires (1,3 & 2,4) are completely contained within the shields. What is the purpose of the clips in this case?
