You did really well, especially pulling the motor - trans from the side. Every Corvette driveline I removed over the years was from the front of the car. A lot easier. Park the car in backwards when you put it all back together.

Thanks Jim. I debated about front or side after reading the different methods. I watched a YouTube video of a guy pulling from the side on a C3 and just did that way since I could fit everything in the garage as it was getting dark. Hopefully I will be reinstalling it on just a bare frame.

Anybody have one of these come with their car? I can’t remember exactly where it fell out but I think it was from that exhaust crossmember bracket part. It was a solid cristy black blob. My friend was looking at it and thought it was as bone so he cleaned it up. He thinks it may be a moose whistling tooth but he have no clue.

It's amazing the stuff you find when you take an old car apart.

Looks like Elk whistlers, but much larger. Fortunately, I have many. I'm not aware of Moose having "whistlers" though.

Either way....makes you wonder how it got under there. Did your car run over something several years ago?

Keep it with the car, and have a key chain made out of it.

I think I meant elk but said moose. I never see any around here so I guess they are both the same to me. lol. My wife wondered if that is what cause the damage to the front. I told her I think there would have been more damage if a moose/elk was hit. Here are couple pics of the clutch and flywheel. Going to do a separate thread on the 327 as I am not sure the best way to sell it.

A moose whistler? This thread, and you and your car, are teaching me all kinds of things. Keep it coming.

Jim, that's a conventional 1963-up bent-finger diaphragm clutch - a B&B clutch (below) has arms and rollers and coil springs in the cover.

Thanks John, Too much water over the dam. My old brain is forgetting items. All I remember, is changing many of both items on manual trans Chevrolet cars and Corvette that customers owned over the years. EACH unit is probably hard to find today

I'm not a BB guy, but didn't GM use a bent finger (11"?) as well as the B&B with BB's?

Thanks guys. I did find the borg and beck on the front. Is this clutch still good and would it be worth anything?

Personally, looking at the thickness (area around the rivets) of the disc, there is no way I would put that back in. The surface of the pressure plate and flywheel don't look that good either. It's hard to tell if they have heat checking on them from the picture.

The flywheel may be worth having a machine shop resurface, but the pressure plate is just too inexpensive to take a chance on. A machine shop would be able to tell you if the flywheel will clean up, but I would definitely replace the PP.

Good luck... GUSTO

As for the flywheel, in post #306 the very last picture shows what appears to be either a crack or a casting flaw at the top of the pic.

Experience taught me not to throw out anything while doing a resto. If you have any out of the way space a small shed or even an area you can cover things on a skid with a tarp dont ditch anything until your revival is done.

Thanks Phil. I’m keeping a box/pile for everything and then see what I can possibly sell/give away and what will go to scrap. I still have the rusted bent gas tank and rusted exhaust. On a side note I was curious how well the klean strip paint remover worked. I spent about 15-20 minutes on it having never done this before. Brushed the stripper on and within a couple minutes the paint bubbled up. Used the plastic scraper and scooped it off. Then brushed some more stripper on the grey and red primer and went work on it with a red pad. Rinsed it off with water and still had some red primer. Filled up a clean red pad with water and just rubbed on it for a little bit and the rest of the primer came off. I did have to rinse the red pad several times. After that I just hit it with some water and a rag. Hope I'm doing this correctly.

Looks like you might have had a luggage rack at one time.
